I have just aquired a TA PERFORMANCE
TA 1512B aluminum metric oil pump cover with 25524990 casting number. I also got a MELLING K-20IHV long gear oil pump repair kit for autozone.

THE spacer plate that comes with the melling kit has a round hole in it 1/2" in diameter, this hole feeds the engine, IT was smaller than the oil pump cover hole , so I ported it up to about 15mm and also enlarged the rectangle feed slot into the oil filter area . and port matched the gaskets, also honed out the middle passage of the 18mm 1.5 oil filter nipple for greater flow.

Am I on the right track ?

Right after my rebuild, my oil pressure would drop to seriously low levels about 2 hours on the new oil change with dino 10w30 oil, I also found pretty good size wear particles inside the oil filter,

I think my oil was SHEARING, SO I ADDED LUCAS OIL STABILIZER,
Now on fourth oil change and am using SHELL synthetic ROTELLA 5w40 alone with no problems , BUT am going to have new gears put on along with new oil pump cover in a few weeks for piece of mind,

Current set up is a long gear pump WITHOUT thrust plate on a used front cover and used oil pump cover.

SORRY FOR SO LONG THREAD

Well, I am not an oil pump "expert" but have done a couple hundred Buick oil pumps/covers over the years.

For starters, I throw away any high volume gears or covers that have been converted to HV. A good "blueprinted" timing cover and properly set up gears will give all the oil needed for even race applications.
