This has just been a lousy day for me. Got a new radiator from ac delco that does not fit and the spring on my garage door broke:( Any way i am wondering is this some thing that I can fix or do i need to call a pro? Also where would I buy a spring ? Thanks

My neighbor's spring broke. He called a pro. Given the tension of that spring, so would I.

It's easy. If you were going to install your own radiator then you can do this. I think the spring is actually easier.

What Steve said! Easy job, just did both of my doors in my house as the original owner never replaced them so it was just a matter of time before one let go. Installed the safety cables too.

Now that is if you have the extension type springs, meaning two springs per door that run parallel and above the door tracks. If you have the type of spring that runs from side to side above the door opening I have always been told to have a pro do it. You weren't clear on what type you have.

Sorry about not being specific. On my door there are 2 large springs that mout above the door. It looks like there is a large "pipe" that goes through the center of the spring. I do not think I would need a cable because if it does break the "pipe" acts as a safety
