In my best old man's voice...
I used to be a gopher when I was your age. Had to learn all the tools, hold the flashlight in just the right spot, and occasionally I would get to wrench on a few bolts. Even got to take a bath in tranny fluid (THANKS DAD!). My father has a 1938 Chevy Street Rod with a 383 stroker and a 283 before that. Since that car was so simple in construction it was the perfect car to learn about cars on. Then as I got older, I had a LeMans, then went on to the Grand National. Now my father is my gopher. He's very proud of the fact that I now ten times more then he does about cars and that I've learned the ins and outs of a far more complicated car. He gets the tools for me now, holds the flashlight in the right place, even drives to the store when I need parts.
I know when I was young he cherished the times we worked on cars, and I know now that I, too, cherish the time I work on cars with him.
I guess you could say he taught me everything I know.... took ten minutes.
