In my best old man's voice...

I used to be a gopher when I was your age. Had to learn all the tools, hold the flashlight in just the right spot, and occasionally I would get to wrench on a few bolts. Even got to take a bath in tranny fluid (THANKS DAD!). My father has a 1938 Chevy Street Rod with a 383 stroker and a 283 before that. Since that car was so simple in construction it was the perfect car to learn about cars on. Then as I got older, I had a LeMans, then went on to the Grand National. Now my father is my gopher. He's very proud of the fact that I now ten times more then he does about cars and that I've learned the ins and outs of a far more complicated car. He gets the tools for me now, holds the flashlight in the right place, even drives to the store when I need parts. :D

I know when I was young he cherished the times we worked on cars, and I know now that I, too, cherish the time I work on cars with him.

I guess you could say he taught me everything I know.... took ten minutes.

On a real note, take it in stride bud you will have the knowledge and know how and besides, this prolly makes your dad happy when you two are spending time together. My sons only 3 now, but he's learning quick :D

Most important thing, just have fun as life is to short!

That definitely sounds familiar! ;)

Anyone looking for a helper?

Head Gofor is probably looking for a new car to wrench on after my crappy performance this weekend! :o

He has this strange idea that the car should actually be faster after we work on it instead of slower. :D

Sorry bud! We'll do better next time or bring it home on the hook!

:o Hmmm....I may have been a bit hasty with the reprimand. I hope I don't find blocks of wood tied to the pedals!

Perhaps a bonus is in order for the kid. Keep up the good work lad! :)

with him driving it would be worth a few tenths :) say you let him! make it a birthday or x mas present!

(i know i am goating the kid to start asking you to drive, HEHHEHEHEEH)

To the younger kids out there. When you start out with this stuff you will get the low jobs, but without those, you don't have anything to hang all the good stuff on. I spent hella long hours watching my dad bust his hands working on cars on the weekend and I learned more by holding a light and handing tools, than from most anything else. It's like in the Karate Kid. There is a lot you are learning and you don't even know it. Hang in there, you will get to the point you have a go fer and the cycle keeps going.
Have fun doing it, there will come a time these memories will be some of your favorite moments of your life. Besides, you have to learn how to curse in a proper manner anyway. If you are lucky, you may even get a sip of beer every now and then too.

He (Alex) knows I'm just teasing.

If it weren't for his help, (and I say this with complete honesty) my GN would still be on jack stands with no engine under the hood.

I said it before, but it doesn't hurt to say it again, thank you. :)
