Any TN members? Need info

I'm buying a car out of Tennessee, but live in NJ. What I want to know is does TN have temporary tags or "in-transit" tags that I can get at the DMV in order to get the car home? If they do have them do you know if I will be able to procure one, being an out of state resident? The car is presently unregistered and uninsured, otherwise I'd use the present owners tags for the day... Oh well.

Where in TN is this car? TN requires insurance for every vechicle on the road. They do however have temp tags but without the car not having a registration on it I don't know if they'll issue a temp tag.

Let me know where the car is and i'll call the county clerk and see if they'll issue a tag.

If you are buying it thru a dealer they should be able to get a temp tag for you.

In TN the tag DOES NOT transfer with the vehicle like in most states.

HTH (hope this helps) Does NJ have temp tags? I know in NC, you can put insurance on a car if you know the VIN, maybe you can get a transit tag from NJ as well? Heh heh, I remember I purchased a car in Norfolk Va, I did put insurance on it, but I drove it all the way back to Raleigh NC w/ NO tag! (the car was registered shortly afterwards)

Ohio will issue you a temporary tag if
you have the VIN and my insurance co.
will issue insurance if you have the VIN.
Don't know about N. J., though.

Thanks everyone for the help. The car is in Tullahoma, TN. It's about an hour south of Nashville, don't know what county that is. I actually got a living breathing person on the phone this am at the TN DMV. She told me all I need to get a 30 day temp is my NJDL and the title signed over to me. If you could clarify this for me I would greatly appreciate it though. I would hate to drive 13 hrs to get the car only to find out thaey won't do what this girl said they would...

Unfortunately NJ does not issue temp tags unless you are a dealer...

I know of "almost" if not every Buick owner in that area. Is this a '84 or a '86/'87?
My old '86 was down there and the guy sold it to someone in Michigan on this board.
