Argh I hate my stupid 'electronic touch climate control'. I know why they discontinued the things. They break. Mine will light up every button as you press them, but ignores you. No matter what temperature you set it at, it's set on 'freeze your nuts off' and no matter if you put it on hi, low, auto, econ it's always on max. So I have either 60 degree full blast ac, or no ac.

It can get annoying, I turn it on for 10 minutes, get real cold, turn it off for 5 minutes, get hot and stuffy, turn it on again, etc. Are there schematics to this piece of crap? I think the actual unit is working fine but the things it's connected to aren't functioning correctly. I guess the other option is to get the ac controls from a parted GN or I guess any parted Regal. I sort of like how the digital controls look, though, if I could just fix the ****er...

I got yer manual right here!

Hey Berminator! :) I have a complete photocopied diagram and troubleshooting manual for the ETCC. If you want, I can e-mail you my # and I can help you troubleshoot this thing over the phone.

That would be cool. What does your manual say about my problem? Anything I can go check immediately? I wish you had a .pdf file of it, would be nice to have a schematic in front of me..

would it be possible for me to get a copy of that manual also-im having problems with mine.if the fan is not changing speeds,i think its the 5 wire connector thermister in the engine compartment above the evaporator coil.just replace the unit-2 screwsand its out-when they go bad all you get is high speed.mine is not blowing air through the vents and its not getting cold-thanks matt

With the dig climate control setup, when it works properly, if you have the fan setting on AUTO, it should run the fan on high until the temp reaches the temp setting you have selected, then switch speeds to low/med/hi to keep the temp at the selected temp...

If you do only have one fan speed(hi), then it does sound like the circuit board that is in the engine compartment/heater box is bad...If you have trouble locating one for a G-body car, email me and I'll tell you what other ones will work and what mods you have to do the board to get it to fit the G-body cars...

When the dig climate setup works, it is actually great...

I have the diagnostics on it but it is about 2.0 pages plus diagrams. I will see if I can borrow my friends scanner and I can get it e-mailed to you.

It has a long process to check 2 individual things that I can see:

1) Actuator diagnosis.
2) temperature valve actuator diagnosis.

49-blues, the part that you are talking about is the Blower motor & A/C compressor control module and you may be able to go to a salvage yard and get a rebuilt unit using your original as a core. That is what I did with mine back in '96.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

can it be had off of another vehicle and is it located under the dash??-thanks matt

I had the exact same problem with mine for 3 years. The fix? I added a RA volt booster. Apparently all mine needed was a couple of 14 volt blasts sent to the thing to straighten it out. It's been working with NO problem for 1 1/2 years now.

Go figure.....

Its the circuit board in the top of the blower motor box. Since it was available in '86, other GM cars had the ETCC. I would check the Luxury cars such as the Eldo, Riviera, etc......

Don't know if this helps, but I've got an 84' limited regal with the ETCC, so some of the older regals have it too. I think it's the same, but not sure. I'm parting the car out, so if you need anything off it let me know. I've got about everything off it I can use.

On some of the fwd cars, they used the same circuit board...The only difference is that they had an extra mounting board pop-riveted to the circuit board...All you need to do is drill out the rivets and the board is the same as the G-body one...
