Friends got a 96 blazer that has a coolant leak that runs along the intake on the driver's side, Can't find a source anywhere and it looks like it's coming from the intake beings nothing else is wet (hoses, etc.). What all needs to come off to get the intake off-if this is what it even is. How long does it take? Looks like its a plastic intake too. Got 134k on the clock. Might take this job on to pay for Powerlogger.

Plastic intake gasket ate up by dexcool is the issue. It's about a 3-4 hour job for someone withe experience. Not too hard, yeah price of a power logger seems fair!

Make sure you get the felpro permadry gasket set .that way you dont have to do it again. you do not have to pull upper intake to do the job. just get the lower set and some right stuff for the ends. you do have to pull distributor .if you never did one get a chilton book. there is to much to list. they are not that bad to do. good luck

Flush the coolant first!!!!!

I did my Suburban with the same issue although with the 5.7. Perform a full coolant system clean/flush on the thing first!!! Dexcool is said to be illegal for sale in the state of Kentucky because of all the problems that came from it, thousands of failed cooling systems on the highways means more crap in the ground water. Clean the overflow bottle as well. Be nice to this guy and very gently clean the injector poppet valves while it's out. Just spray the carbon off with some throttle body cleaner. Don't use a stiff brush to clean the head...replacement injectors would be required after you get carbon stuck in them...ask me how I know. Put in a new drilled t-stat and some fresh coolant.

So charge him price of powerlogger for just labor or for everything? Does the entire front accessory bracket need to come off?

No,just loosen the bolts and it should slide forward...or is that the 5.7? On the 4.3 you may not have to touch it. I'd do it for labor, let him buy his own parts. But I am expensive!:D
