Yup. 2008. 60th Anniversary and my first time.

It was great! I'll go back soon.

The friendliest world-class racing event you'll ever go to. Here's some pix: note how close to the starting line on the long course!

That Caddy XLR was one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen.

nope but is on my my list of places to go

after seeing it on the movie the world's fastest indian and a few programs. i've been to the texas mile and although it's only 1.5 miles long the top speed was set 2 yrs ago at 327 if i remember correctly by a jet car. previous top speed was a turbo supra owned by a asian guy in houston at 257. walking down the airfield they hold it at you get up close and personal with alot of top cars. tons of vettes, stangs, and everything inbetween. they even have a 200mph club if you can break it.

I've been to Bonneville several times, but never during speed week. :frown:

I own property in UT and am slowly packing up my home in CA.

CA has become a freaking joke. Time will tell if I decide to take the plunge and relocate, but I'm slowly talking myself into it.

Actually I was looking @ photos several days ago, and I spotted this. These are from 2009.

When is speed week? I have been thinking about going out there to see the flats with my dad for some time.

Thanks,
Nate

The owner of that Caddy XLR is a good friend of ours who's name is Bob Johnson. Very cool guy and has an eye for cool cars. He just did the record in his class last year and is now re-working the car to go even faster!

Thanks for the info, we are trying to determine if we want to do the long haul from Texas.

been there

be sure and take a straw hat and DARK sunglasses--the sun off the salt is blinding.

And the sun reflects off the salt so make sure you wear tighty-whities so you don't get "toasted nuts"

1965! I was 12, we had to go to California so dad took us via the flats. I don't remember much though as we only stayed a few hours.

Scot, he's very cool indeed. I chatted with him (or the guys on the crew.) Very friendly, willing to talk about the car. They had changed over from Northstar to SB2.2 that year.

The pix I took don't do that car justice. It is stunning.

Here's some more pix for those interested: A Ford 3.8 V6 modified roadster, a lakester with an Arias hemi-headed Chevy, and a wild turbo diesel pickup.

I guess I didn't take any pix of the pits, but there is so much cool stuff there it'll blow your mind. What a kick in the a55. :-D
