Curious how many rjc headgaskets have blown and what blew, steel or sealent? Just got back from track and lost cyl #2, coolant in cyl. I had heard you could retorque, and they will re-seal. I tried this and the bolts did not move. So I guess I wil pull pass. head. Has anyone here pulled a head with intake still on? Thanks for any input. Bob. P.S. still coasted to a 11.13@106 from a 6.99@98.5 1/8 at 23#boost 91oct.and Julios pac alky kit!

you'll probably wanna loosen all the head bolts then re-torque. thats what i would try.

I think shandy blew one out in nashville tn, his was lean and popped it out. I wonder if the popping you were having earlier killed this cyl?

Pull it apart and find out.

i had just installed the newest set of his headgasket design about a month ago and just recently snapped my crank from detonation. i had not plugged the map sensor all the way in so at 24psi i was not spraying enough alky to keep up and i saw 20 degrees and heard the pinging at 13.5 a/f i snapped the crank in 2. after ripping the motor down the headgaskets looked as good as new i think these are the best gaskets out there bar none they took my beating and didnt even show signs of blowing. thanks jason for such an awesome product. my last last pair if gaskets were some stock steel gm ones i picked up from work and they blew out and i didnt even know since it was not that bad.

I would retorque and perform a leak down. The passenger side is the easy side to change worst case.. If you have the time.. replace the gasket. I find I always have issues when I use ARP bolts that are brand new.. once they've been on a motor... retorqued a few times.. they seem to hold the heads down better. This is a personal observation on our group and the motors we've built.

Thats movin in the 6's... and a 10 second pass with a 25 pickup.. ;)

So loosening bolts and then retorqueing works? I ck. them to 85# and the bolts did not budge. Thanks, Bob.

The head gaskets held, but the crank let go. Don't take this the wrong way, but do you see anything wrong with that picture?

Are these the best gaskets? I am in the process of planning out my engine build and am probally going with head studs and no o-rings. My stockers did take 30+ psi before I suffered a piston melt down, but the gasket (stocker) looks like it shows signs of leakage. BTW I never did suffer a blown head gasket, even after the piston ventilated itself. I am also planning on running 30 psi again

Lee nothing wrong with that picture the only reason the crank snapped is cause i was running low 10's on it and its a naturally aspirated one that took a ton of knock before i could figure what was wrong. all the runs i would let out when i saw 13.5 A/F never even wound out 3rd gear on teh runs. even saw some major knock while chasing down this prob and through it all the crank ended up snapping and the headgaskets held up through all the abuse. thing would still be running fine had i known the map sensor was not plugged in all the way so not sure what you are getting at

I think Lee's point was he woud rather have a safety valve.....so he (and I) would rather have a blown headgasket than a broken crank. Blowing a headgasket may (or possibly may not) have saved your motor.

blowing the headgasket would not have saved the motor the detonation from the lack of octane did hell on the bearings which in turn lost oil pressure up top which in turn ended up snapping the crank. but through all that detonation the headgaskets didnt flinch is what im getting at. with a girdle and good headgaskets and an awesome tune i see no need for a safety valve.

I also had been chasing a sputtering problem after alky install. Was green tach terminal , wire bare by connecter and up against alt. brkt. Then alky pump quit pumping and took a few hits at 22#boost. The gaskets took all this, and then at the track Sunday. I had not added fuel for cooler temps, plus that added a little more boost. Car felt great, halfway through 3rd gear I look at scanmaster and see 740s o2 volts. Just after that I heard some pinging, so I lifted. Coasted through onto return road, and eng. died. Restarted after hard cranking and saw white smoke and then knew what was up. Ended up being cyl. #2. Bob.

Glad to see you finally got the sputtering issue resolved, sucks about the HG.

Its going to snow tomorrow, so you wont be driving the car soon anyway.....

Hey Bryan, I called you today and left a message. I talked to Crabby today and he has a pair of stock steel shims I can use. So dont worry about my message. Later, Bob.

10-4 i left my phone in my daily driver... woops!

Did you gain any more MPH in the 1/8th with the higher boost compared to your last years best pass?

So how long did you have the new gaskets in your motor?

yes i blew #1 cyl

always with alky...prolly too much timing in it......could have been from improper install...who knows..i am doing them myself this time....plus lots of other parts...well see....

Well, I just got done pulling pass. side head. #2 cyl. was blown on the bottom shim towards the front. Was still intact, but was warped outward on bottom steel shim. Does anyone know where to get the GE ultra glaze sealent to put on the shims? Thanks, Bob.
