I took a few months break but am starting back up working on my current project of a 1956 Ford F-100 truck and was just wondering if anyone else here on the board builds models? I've been building them off and on since I was 14. Not nearly as good as I wish I was, but there is a local club that I am hoping to go to some meetings for and learn some new techniques!

I will post pictures later today as I'm at work right now and can't access photobucket.

That would be something fun to do but i look at is as the money i spend on models is the less money i have for the real thing.

back before i was able to play with the 1:1 steel versions, i used to build quite a few 1:24 and 1:25 plastic models. i would put them together, then tear them apart to swap motors, wheels, and interior pieces. i even built a few roll cages out of the framework that the parts came on.
then i'd take the motors out and wheels off and scrap the bodies.
it was good practice for when i started working on real cars- only instead of having a couple of sheds full of spare parts, i only had a couple of small cardboard boxes.

Yes I build plastic models....been doing it off and on since 1986...

These pics are from this time last year and only a little progress has been made since BUT I have started back up as of today!!! My original plan was to finish the first week of Jan 2009...that didn't work out...so now I'm shooting for Jan 2010!! lol

Here's the H2 that I built for my wife. This was a level 2 so not a lot of parts, but I put a lot of work into the paint.

Here's the first model I built after a 4 year break. It's a 1954 F-100 (if you can't tell this is my favorite body style!) I had some issues with the paint job and I didn't put enough thought into some of the process. Overall it turned out ok though. When I moved to VA the military movers damaged it a bit, though you can't tell in the pics anymore.

Looking pretty good! Do you do anything besides cars? Any tips/tricks that you have discovered?

I built a stock car once when I was 14...the roll frame was a pain!! Probably one of the hardest models I had done...the '56 is now harder..but I made it that way :)

Thanks. Cars have been all I've ever done though I have considered trying aircraft.

Tips or tricks....when doing the chrome around the windows, sometimes scotch tape works better than masking tape...wash your hands when gluing in the windows. I have been told to use Elmers glue on the windows as model glue tends to fog them up after awhile, even if you don't have any on the exposed parts.

I used to have a couple of drawers full of spare parts, it was my junkyard !!

You guys will appreciate this guy. Check out this link. I would hate to guess how many hours he has in these models. Click on the pics and enjoy.
