Anyone ever get a vacuum leak from the TB shaft?

The shaft on my throttle body that goes through the TB and has the butterfly on it has a lot of play in it, and it is wet on either side of the TB. Am I the only one that has had this problem? Can this cause a nasty vacuum leak (enough to make my idle BLM's jump to 160)? Ive been searching EVERYWHERE for a vacuum leak and this is the only problem I have found.

Yes, I had the same problem and couldn't find the seals anywhere. So I went down to Pep Boys and bought some o-rings, gutted out the old, cracked rubber of the seals and put the o-rings in. It solved my vacuum leak there and is still working fine for about a year now.

Interesting!! I'd of never thought to go that route. Do you remember what size o-rings to use?

Turbodave, I have several packs of o-rings in the garage, but the ones that I believe I used were O-tite brand that measure:
width 1/8
i.d. 3/8
o.d. 5/8

I have designed and made replacement seal sets but it proved expensive because I had to machine small bushings to hold them in place. There are a few of my sets in use out there (including my old GN), and should last a VERY long time. But, it was hardly worth my time as they were difficult to machine and the seals themselves were like $13 a piece my cost!

I can't say how long the O-rings will last, but it is a much cheaper do-it-yourself option that does work.
