In the end if your just going for whatever is biting then just get an Ugly Stik and decent spinning reel, weather or not you use braided or fire wire depends, my self i dont and wont but to each is own.

I had all my blanks custom made Rolstons plus a couple of Loomis blanks. a 7.6 Rolston one peice, cork handle with pacbay guides and seat runs me about $470.00 shipped
My Steelhead blanks are from 11ft to 13 with glow in the dark wraps.. can spot me at night in the river for sure.

But aside from all of that, you can be outfitted with $1100.00 in gear and still get whooped by a zebco 303. so more money does not always equal more fish.

How big is that one in the top pic? that is a friggin TOAD!! BPS being local is so cool, we've had one here over 10 years....thanks to them being close, I find myself there on lunch hour a lot. Thus being in the "Top 10% club" of all rewards club spenders for several years. Your welcome BPS!
What kind of rigs people on here have? Big or small?

-10' BPS plastic 2 man, w/ 2 36 lb motor guides, and a small graph
-15' 3" Riverhawk fiberglass jon boat w/ 2 46lb Motor guides and a 52 lb foot control, and a Humminbird graph. b-60 pro caster the BEST small boat stability I have ever seen!!!
-19' 6" Bass Cat Pantera II, Merc XR6 150, MotorGuide 80 Lb, 2 Lowrance graphs, 2 Lowrance flashers, etc etc

In each boat I guarantee more #s of fish have been caught than $s spent on the rigs. All have a little age, but run perfectly!

Man I love fishing!!

Tomorrow, I'm heading to the MN boundary waters for a week of fishing, Walleyes & smallies. Nothing fancy equipment wise, 2 shimano rod reel combo's and one shimano rod on a Gander Mountain rod. Weightless crawler for the smallies and slip bobber with leaches for the walleyes.

did you get it from Dalton marine or private seller?! yeah funny how that happens all that driving and it was born next door, but a great choice in a bass rig for sure. The boat I pic'd has been on Rayburn 5x and Toledo bend prob 3-4 times.... yet 0 in both since 1997. Loved both lakes, but Toledo is a great place to rip your transom off if you dont know the channels.

They had a new 2006 or 2007 Bass Cat that I sure thought about but I went simple and lighter this time.
Mine is just a 18 ft with a 115 Yamaha.

No shame in that, pleanty of boat still. Dalton always has good deals. I want a newer Bass cat, Mine is a 1996, my dad had new as a sponsorship when he was on their team as a touring pro. Later he went w/ Ranger, Stratos, and then a new company (back then) called Triton (he had the 3rd one ever made... Earl Bentz had #1, Guy Eaker Sr. had #2 )Now that is one of the highest regarded boat manufacturers. I just like the Cats!

For fresh water stick with Shimano or Daiwa! I personally prefer the Shimanos and their Clarus rods with give you the best bang for the buck! The clarus come with a lifetime warantee and at the price you can get them for makes them a great deal. Stick with spinning reels unless you have had experience with bait casters,

I fish all Shimano's Chronarchs and Cailas with G Loomis rods... It is true you get what you pay for in fishing equipment... If you fish a 3 day tournament with cheap heavy equipment it is much harder on you than the good stuff...

I tried the high end Diawa's before and was not impressed. No even close to a chronarch...

I am jealous!! We had a few Tr21s w/ 225 Mercs that'd gps 74-75mph (before 250s and 300s were available.) After retirement, dad had sold his last sponsored Triton, and then heard a buddy was sellin his CHEAP because he needed to make room for his new ones, so w cash in hand he bought it and had it for a few years....Man I wish he'd never sold it. BTW, the buddy?! Shaw Grigsby, so you know it was loaded.
I'd love a Tr22 w/ a 250, or a Bass cat Puma w/ a 250. After having every brand under the sun while growing up in a pro fishing home, those are 2 of the very highest quality boats made, and the best people standing behind them. The Bentz family (before they sold it) and the Pierce's are top notch.

Yes, I had the PLEASURE of meeting Mr. Bentz at the Miami boat show the previous year. We have a mutual friend that he and Earl used to race together for Mercury way back. I have actually spoke to Mr. Bentz on the phone a few times:biggrin: He actually put me on the "team" that year but it was just because of my friend. I got the boat at the TEAM price. My dealer was pissed because he ordered the same boat and paid a lot more:biggrin: :biggrin: I actually missed talking to Shaw one year at the expo. My wife and kid was at his seminar waiting for it to start when I went to get my wife a drink. I came back and she was smiling and said I missed it, Shaw had stopped and was playing with my son in the stroller and I missed it

I have met Mr. Ray Scott too! That was a treat as well, very nice man...

You are right, Triton is without a question the best boat on the water... I have an LTS 22 as well with a 225 optimax on it, best damn red fishing boat ever made!

SGRIM, check what happened to me on the water today (check thread I started "Anyone having a bad....year") Thanks to this, I am looking at a used Tr21 at Greene, which maybe close to you. Hubert and Rose Greene are friends of dads, and its time to move on to another rig after losing an expensive fight today. I just hate rebuilding $1500 on an old motor on a $8,000 boat.

Wow sorry to hear that bud... That is one of the reasons I slowed up on the tournaments. I tore something up every week it seemed... I had more miles on the truck carrying it to the dealer and back than to the water...
