I have a digital dash in my 84 and it was working fine!!! Out of nwhere the speedo and fuel stopped working, I had swapped it out with a extra cluster I had on the shelf and it still does the exact same thing!! I checked all the fuses and lights and they all look fine? I can't wait to get pulled over and when they ask me do you know how fast you were going!!! Any ideas??

Sounds like either a bad ground or the power supply crapped out.

Casper's used to replace the power supply, don't know if they still do it. You may give them a call. While they're in there, you should also have them put in the 199 mph chip so the dash doesn't blink 85 any more...

Works great...

Power supply????

I did check and replace the ground it, so I take it it must be the power supply then?? The thing is? Where or what does the power sully look like???

Yeah I can't seem to figure mine out or where the power supply is located? I know my turn signals work, boost gauge works, oil and temp works fine, and the check enginge light works as well! Even the odometer works to, but the speedo, gas gauge and trip odometer don't do a thing, no lights nothing!!! I tried swapping the dash and that was a waste of time, it does the same with both of the clusters I have!! It would be nice to at least know how much gas I have!!!! Is it at all possible to change it out with one from another year with the mechanical one???? Or it that more work then it is worth?

Caspers Electroics in Mundelein IL rebuilds and upgrades the digital dash. $300 plus shipping. Just an idea. Brad

Where is the power supply at??

Where the heck do they put the power supply for the digital dash cluster at?? I was looking itno my car today, and I noticed tons of wires spliced and some not even hooked up, so I figured that may be may problem with my dash not working or it could just be a big waste of time, but I will get something fixed:wink:

If I remember right, you have to disassemble the speedo cluster to get to it. It is underneath a smaller board that is mounted to the main board. I don't remember even being able to see it when it is all together. I don't think that I would even attempt to replace it myself. I think it needs to be soldered in. I watched John Spina do mine at the Nats back in 2000 or 2001 while I waited. He's pretty good with a soldering iron!!! Much better to have him do it. He also tests everything out when he's done to make sure everything is working properly.

I don't know?????

I don't know. If the power supply is in the dash then I have big problems:eek: I have tried three clusters in this car and the one I know for sure worked when I pulled it from a parts car about 6 years ago:eek: So if they all do the same thing I have three digital dashs with the exact same problem, wich I really doubt:confused: Or I have a problem with the wires that go to the dash:eek: Make any sense at all:rolleyes:

I hope this helps some of you guys. It's the I/P digital cluster schematics and diagnostics from a 1987 service manual, for Regals. Sorry I didn't get it posted for you sooner. Direct link is HERE

The way that John at Casper's explained it to me, was that these cars are getting older and the dash holds a lot of heat in and these power supplies just get cooked in there, or something to that effect. It isn't just TR/GNs, a lot of the GM digital dash cars are the same way. These cars are now over 20 yrs old, electronics just don't last under that kind of heat, especially if the cars spent any amount of time out in the sun.
