A friend of my girlfriend's mom died and he had his fathers dodge diplomat in the garage. The "facts" I'm getting aren't adding up but suppodley it's been there 30 years, is and ex-cop car, has 28k miles and got driven occasionaly. The problems I have with the facts are it's supposedly a 88, and cops don't auction cars with <28k miles. Also they can't find the key and the brother is in for 3 days to get rid of everything. Is it something worth making an offer on?

Just an old K -car
nothing special
Chrysler sold a lot of 'em as police vehicles,
but nothing special engine -wise
(got stuck with on when I patrolled back in the day)
very basic/cheap transpo

if it was a cop car it would have a certified speedometer and it would say it right on the gauge. also the cop car wheels were 15x7 and looked diffrent than what regular cars came with along with some other suspension stuff.

i suggest just google it

My father owned one of thos ex-cop cars. They are actually kind of cool. It will have the HD suspension with rear sway bar, 11" rear drums, quick ratio stearing, big alternator and battery, 318 4 bbl with rochchester carb, Big valve 360 heads, factory hyd. roller cam, posi 3.23 rear, and 15X7 rims. At least thats what my dads was. Transmission will be a torquflight A998 or something like that with factory low gear set and lock-up converter that was standard for that year. May have a 360 engine ?

Not sure what its worth but there is a small following for those.

The "K " car platform was FWD only and did not include the Diplomat. The Diplomat was a "M" body and included the plymouth grand fury.

Try NADA.com. They're the only ones that have a basic collector and classic pricing on their site.

Yes,Sir, you are correct!
Still a pretty much drive it into the ground & get another one type of car

It's worth about a penny a pound.........o_O

No real collector value but there is a small enthusiast value IF its an original police package. as stated HD susp.,etc.

If it's in good shape and runs it'd be worth a craigslist listing, if it's a POS just crush it.

With that low mileage, it could have been a local government use vehicle driven by anything from a P/D detective all the way up from there. GSA department usually auctions off most of its surplus vehicles and equiptment in the D/C area. Pops got a low mileage and mint 78 AMC Matador with a 360, dog dishes and a posi with 30k on the clock in 86.

you could get it and brag to all of your friends and anyone that will listen to you that you own the last of theV8 powered rwd torsion bar front/leaf sprung rear Mopars...

Like I said, "about a penny a pound".....:D

Depending condition and rust issues it can be worth $500 to 5k. Is this a marked squad car? Because if it is the price goes up. Give them $500 and then do your homework. You cant get hurt for$500. the key is no big deal. Same as changing the tumbler on a gn if I remember correctly. Good luck and keep us posted

It was kind of beat up and had tons of junk on it. At the very least it needed a battery, tires and a new tumbler. I passed on it since I didn't want to put $700 into a car that would be worth $500 when I was done.

I never owned one but remember them, and their twin brother the Gran Fury. I read an article in Hemmings where as police cars, the cops driving them couldn't keep up with speeding motorists.

Baaaahahahaha.

Those cars were turds when it came to both power and looks.

:D **I sincerely apologize to all of you who build, drive, collect, or otherwise waste your time on a prime example of when Mopar was out of touch with the entire world.**:D

The sedans gm was building in that era were even worse than the mopars. I'll take a 318/360 mopar over a 307 any day of the week. Virtually every squad in the country did too. Lesser of 2 evils.
