Yep...know exactly what you mean about the funny or slightly disgusted looks. It's even more prevailent with my T.....a few door dings, so-so factory gray paint, somewhat dirty/stained factory wheels, ugly seat covers, etc....lol. Then you get those few people who are in the know on what these cars are who give you a thumbs up, wave, etc. I like the ones who think "what an ugly old gray car".....then they have the look at the next light after hearing the whistle from underhood.

Even more fun are the ricers.....they don't give the car a second look.....I had one in a lowered, riced-out S2000 do that 2 weeks ago. He and another ricer had just eased on past me, not giving me a 2nd glance. They goofed around a little, then ricer#2 turned off....mr S2K decided he would get on it to show his supremacy over #2. After seeing his attempt to impress, decided to blow cover and reveal my little secret. Should have seen how big his eyes were after I did a quick run up so he could hear it spool, then the cough when I got off the gas. All I could see in his rearview mirror was .....I was just sitting there Needless to say, he behaved himself until I turned off into the apartment complex....lol.

I get that disgusted look from most of the other TR owners in my area because my car looks like complete crap. I'm embarassed to show it. The paint is checked as bad as it can get. I don't have the money to have it painted professionally and I don't have any connections in the auto body business. Now having a kid it'll be a looong time before I can put any more work into it.

On the flip side I get alot of compliments from non-TR owners all the time. I just wish my car looks as good as it runs. I also get the kids asking me what type of motor it has. Once I tell them it's a V6 they get this let down look on their faces. Then the light turns green and everything changes.

Mine was pretty much stock except that I removed the fuel injection and pulse air for dual Webers and MSD ignition. The car had 40K (un-sleeved original block) when I sold it 5 or 6 years ago. With the 3:73 posi and 200HP the little Vega hurt some egos.

What was great though…. no one, I mean no one, knew what the car was.

I only get looks like that when I drive my GN. On my way home in my 84 T from the Albuquerque get-together this past weekend, I stopped in Socorro, NM for some breakfast and the little hottie at the Sonic tells me "I LOOOOVE your car". I offered to take her for a ride but she didn't get a break for a few hours and I had to get home.

It's true that if your car looks bad or dirty, no one repects it. Back before I saved up enough money for my show paint job, I had the spider-webbed paint and the rotted out bumper fillers, which really looked bad. Open the door and you would find a mint condition interior. I used to drive it occasionally just to exercise the turbo and I got miffed when a guy I played a round of golf with told me: "Scott, you going to drive that Grand National until the wheels fall off." His jaw dropped when I told him the car had 50K original miles. Ticked me off. Of course now that the car is fully restored, I don't seem to have that problem.

Years ago there use to be a 75 Cosworth with the 4cyl and a turbo that use to race Thompson.It ran high 11's low 12's then just disappeared one day?

I hear you there. I keep saying to myself, "once it runs like I want it to I'll start saving for paint." Well, I realized that there is never a point where you are satisfied with how fast your car runs.

I had the same problem only worse. before my engine blew up i was running a 15.32 at best. And yet when i took it to the strip on what i call rice night friday no one would even get next to me, literally my friend was begging them to stage next to me and all he got was a gap. I had to wait at the tree for like 3-5 min. while they got someone to race everytime. It kept us laughing all the way home. corse the next day my engine died....i wasnt laugh so hard.

at least it made it home

id say worse than the buicks is my brothers galant vr4 he asked a guy at work who was talking about racing if he wanted to run when the guy saw the car he just laghed and then my brother put 6 or 7 car lenghes on his vr6 jetta.
all i get in my buick is hey nice car and, WHAT you race that thing.

Last car show I was in, I got the "Its just a box" as they were walking away

This was from 2 of my fellow competetors

Was a very small car show on the 4th of July

The "Box" won Best Exterior (how ironic ay?) and Best Domestic at this show

The "Its just a box" owners, a 350Z and the Z06 didnt win best exteriors

Guess the judges like boxes. And this was a 350Z sponsored event.

I get the nice monte carlo and the looks in wonder too.

But the other day i was coming home from a frind house and was sitting @ a stoplight and this man a woman( guy looked to be in his 30's) pull next to me in a ford tauras. he yelled at me and said ( THAT'S ONE SWEET GOD D##N CAR. WHAT SIZE MOTOR UNDER THE HOOD) i tell him it has a 3.8 v-6 turbo. guys the writing was on the walls from the expression on his face. then he told me ( ALL IT NEEDS IS A 454 TO RUN AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS) well i laugh at him. by then the light had turned green so i eased down on the throttle and build some boost and just smoke the **** out of the tires going under the light then slow back down. The guy in the tauras pulls back alongside of me and yells at me ( THATS ONE BADASS V6) That was priceless.

you guys think you got it bad, i work at a HOnda dealer!! im getting tired of proving myself everytime we get a new ricy tech that thinks american cars are crap.....all i hear is "My 91 civic with a gsr motor will rev up to 10 grand" i say thats kind of useless when you still run high 14s.....I HATE RICERS!!!!!!! sorry, just had to get that off my chest....

Ricey Hondas are so irritating, granted there are a handful of fast ones out
there but it takes BIG money to make them fast and reliable, then you're
still dealing with a stupid front wheel drive car that is a handful to drive.

What do you do at the Honda dealer? I'm a long time Honda tech myself.
Seems like most of the guys I worked with knew my Buick was fast and
never gave me a hard time about my American made car.
