Anyone running a DIY Wideband o2?

wondering if anyone is running a DIy wb o2. do you feel it was worth the time/money investment? Any tips you can give to me, as i plan on building one very soon. I have alot of electorinc skill and if it works properly it should be a great tuning tool.

bruce, its been a year since you posted this. What are your thoughts on this setup now that you have had more experience with it? Is there anyway to integrate a datalogger with a laptop with this unit? Thanks.

I use it with Robert Raucher's Lockers datalogger. Lockers dumps the 256 bytes of ECM ram plus 6 D/A channels at 15 times per second. One of the D/A channels is preconfigured for the DIY-WBO2. No real time display other than how many characters the logging program has received. Another program takes the data and converts to a readable text file that can be loaded into a spreadsheet. It was originally design for the 747 (I think) ecm, but he has a program for our 148's. Some tweaking of the program may be necessary (I am actually working on that this week). It was $75 assembled and tested. Connects to the diagnostic port (like DS) and uses a serial interface to the notebook.

I was able to get my MAF tables dialed in in 3 chip burns using Bruce's procedure on gnttype.org.

I'd like to get some feedback on what else would be wanted to be output to the text file. I'll either try to do it myself or pass on to RR.

Thats awesome! So those values are from the stock ECM, and from your WB02?

Yep. And there is much more raw data available in the binary file, just needs the "conversion" program tweaked to massage and "print" them. Obvious missing item is KR, and I assume that counts or whatever from the knock sensor module are available. I am planning a trip to the track this week, so I need to get on that.

I built the WBO2 from the pcb and parts kit, but all I had to do was run the output signal to the Lockers screw terminal. I did have to do a little cutting of the ecm case and pcb because the edge connector is mounted to the Lockers pcb. I haven't explored a permanent mounting yet, but hope to.

I think that I searched thru diy-efi.org archives. I emailed him tonight with a request for best way to get info.

If you email me, I can send you the .txt files from the software. They discribe the product, license, etc.

Its all DOS, but I run it under XP just fine. You do have to be a little computer savy. If you know how to use Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and understand directories, etc you should be fine.

No need for it on the 749. It uses the faster ALDL. Turbolink, etc work fine. That and there is a patch available for data logging the WB with the 749 code.

Yea, how about an input for an EGT probe or maybe even 6 of em? Now that would be cool!!!

I looked at that a little and an interface would be required because egt probes work in very small units (millivolts?).

As I understand it, the Lockers D/A channels all compare to a 5v reference so the input signal needs to be 5v or less and they are only 10 bit so the smallest measurable change is about 5mv. There are pads for adding a resistor divider so that higher voltage signals can be dealt with. The WBO2 channel is preconfigured with a 0 ohm resistor (wire).

I misunderstood the -FUL command line option. I assumed (I know ) it meant Full, but is actually Fuel. There is a -SPK option that gives spark info including knock counts and KR. One ends up with 2 files to look at but the first few cols (thru O2) are the same in each.

Unfortunately -ALL only adds -IAC, -MAL and -BLM and they didn't seem generally useful to me for tuning. If I could get the missing libs/includes then maybe I could fix the other options and turn them on. Especially the Force (HP/TQ) info.

If you have mylib.h, that is one that I know I am missing, plus maybe some that it refs. I assume that it is not part of BorlandC 3.1 based on the name. I don't have 3.1 and am using Borland's C++ 5.5 compiler, so I am not sure if it will ever work. I am pretty green when it comes to C.
