Im pulling the motor and trans out this weekend and planning some upgrades. Ive been doing some research and was wondering whos using a Gt6152e turbo and if you like it or not. Thanks in advance.

James hondatech78@yahoo.com:)

I have installed a few of them. What is it specifically you are wanting to know?

I was just trying to find the best turbo for the combo I have in mind. There is all kinds of reading on the standard turbos everyone seems to run but I dont see alot of guys running Gt series turbos. From what Ive been able to find is sounds like a good turbo to try. I just wanted some feedback from guys that have used this particular turbo.

Try a search for pt61, same thing. Im considering one myself and most of what i've read seems to be positive.

What combo?

This would NOT be a good match for your current combo. You do not have enough injector, converter or intercooler to start. Not sure what other items you have or do not have? You did not state what you have in mind, so this make it impossible to provide valid info for you.

The GN's that I have installed the GT6152GT were running low 12's to high 11's. The turbo change, from a TA-49 picked up both MPH and ET. These are cars with 1.60 or so 60' times and driver's that had a couple year track experience in tuning and driving.

As with any performance car, especially these turbo cars, the right combination is everything.:)

I'm running one, and I like it.

I have a super loose stall (3400) so I'm having problems hooking up on the slicks...When I had a 2700 stall I could pull a 1.69 60', but that was launching at 10 psi...With this stall I can pull a best of a 1.72, launching at 2 psi...Once I get the suspension figured out and get a low 1.6-high 1.5 60' I should be running mid-11's on pump gas/alky, and only 18* of timing...Once I turn it up who knows.

It runs 112 MPH with 25 psi and 18* of timing completely stock long block.

This is through a big neck stock intercooler.

Sorry, I should have posted my planned combo. Im planning an orange stripe converter and Janis built trans. I also already have 009's, dutt neck cooler and big valve ported heads. They are all going on in the next couple off weeks and that is why I am looking for info on this turbo.

James

That would rock I'm sure...Personally though If I was gonna go through the trouble to put on ported heads I'd buy a good stall and 61 with a P-trim exhaust instead of the GT version.

My opinion is that you would not have near enough stall or intercooler flow. Other turbos would probably be a better choice for your combo.

We like a 3600 stall with that turbo, as the 3000 stall converters did not work well. Good intercooler really wakes it up a higher RPM's.

Nick, what turbo would you recommend for my combo? Im looking for something that will hit hard on the street and give some good track times.

James

You may want to try a GT6131E, same compressor as the PT61, but has a smaller exhaust wheel, its the same size as those in the TE44's. I run that with a 2700 stall convertor and pull 1.6x 60's with about 10# lauch boost. Would spool perfectly with a 3000 stall convertor I bet.
I was out of fuel with the 40# injectors I had, so the 009's may be done with this size turbo, unless you have alky inj. Others claim to run fine with 009's and a 60 series turbo, but they probably had the fp cranked sky high.

turbo

hey mazdatech

I have your planned combo except for the big valved heads.

with the GT 6152E and 55's lb inj 21 psi with a ****ty 60 ft ( 2.01) i ran a 8.04 @ 87-88 mph on street tires.

I think a 3200 10" stall convertor will work very well with this turbo

I have a 3200 9-11 and have no problem building boost at the track/stoplight :)

If you don't want to go to a high stall converter you might want to look at a BB turbo.
I am running a CPT65 BB from Jack Cotton. I have a 3000 stall PTS 9X11 and it spools great. I turned up the wick last sunday and ran my best 60 ft's ever (1.581, 1.587) on MT ET drag Radials. I spools great on the street too. (my heads are stock , not ported). I ran a 7.34 in the 1/8. I have no doubt with ported heads the right inj and supporting combo you could touch high 10's with this turbo. And still run a 3000 stall with LU for gas milage.
