I just ordered my NX kit today for my car and was wondering if anyone one here has some kind of first hand experience with it on there car. I plan on doing a 100 shot and was wondering if it would be ok. I have a rebuilt motor and tranny done by poston's. It has hyperstatic pistons, stock bottom end, street strip master rebuild kit. What kind of tuning should I do? what kind of plugs and plug gap should I run? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Twin, just wanted to let you know the Atl buick club meeting is this Sat at Halftime Sports on Windy Hill if you weren't aware. Usually show up from 11-12 and have lunch shoot the breeze.

fyi

A 100 shot is a lot in a already boosted application, I believe most start out tuning with a 50-75 kit. If you do start w/ a 100 I'd run some unleaded race gas, lower timing chip, probably a heat range colder plug, start with a lower boost setting because the juice will cause a unexpected rise on your current setting and your gonna need some stickey rear tires because 1st gear is gonna be unusable w/o some. Make sure you have a scan tool to monitor the vitals and start tuning on the fat side to be as careful as possible. And if you haven't already, make sure your fuel pump is new or hotwired and is supplying 1psi of pressure for 1 psi of boost at your current non nos level first.

my 2 cents worth.

GIGGLE GAS IS FUN!!!

i ran it on my fairly stock set up. with a bad torque converter (really bad actually) i was running 14.1 pretty consistantly. i had some major spool up issues with a stock turbo. 2.4 60's and 103-104 mph

i used 50 hp off the line through first gear, shut it off just as it was shifting. i then droped to a 13.5. running it the whole way with 20# was pushing the c16 as far as it would go. i only got a 12.9 by running it the whole track.

in full street trim (16#, street chip) i went from high 14's to high 13's with no knock on pump gas. the cooling effect of the nitrous is really great.

on the street its ok, i don't run it very often mainly because all its good for is spool up and on the street that means burning off the tires.

hopefully xlr8 will chime in, hes done some pretty good things with nitrous on his car.

and the rice kids at the track think its awesome. which is good and bad, now they don't want to race me, i've got nawwws.

Tiny,

If you have not run nitrous before I would start with the 75 shot? Not having your engine setup for nitrous with 100 shot might blow a headgasket or damage pistons.

I would start with a search on nitrous in this forum, it has been covered many many times.

First what are your mods?

In general with a slightly mod GN (chip, air filter, adj fuel reg., adj boost, and a scanning tool (direct scan or knock gauge.) With a 75 shot you will see 2-3 lbs of boost jump. If running race gas a street chip should be ok ( you want 2-3 degree of less timing then w/o nitrous), a good fuel system (upgrade fuel pump like walbro 340), a way to watch for knock and if you see knock let off or you probably will be replacing headgaskets, normally you need to hit the nitrous just after you start rolling off the line or it will probably spin ( if you hit it right off the line it will spin even with sticky tires), leave it on (with no knock) the whole 1/4, set boost 2-3 lbs less then you would normally run, and you should see 1.5 second decrease in 1/4 et on a high 13 or low 14 sec. car. A faster car with see less improvement ( the fater your run the more hp you need to see the same improvement).

I would start with a 50 shot. You will be surprised how much it will help you et and mph.
First get the motor tuned for ZERO knock throughout the entire 1/4 mile pass. You need a good fuel pump to prevent you engine from going lean. Use good gas - 100 UL or better since your boost will probably increase a pound or two.
After you are dialed in w/o the N20, try a 50 shot - you can expect 5 - 7 mph and .5 - .7 et improvement on a fairly stock set up. If you get KR get off the throttle and determine what was causing the KR - you may need additional octane or less boost or more fuel.
After the 50 shot is dialed in, you can increase to a larger 75 or 100 but be careful and keep one eye on your scanmaster and be ready to lift.

I'm not sure where exit 10 is but take 285W to 75N and get off at Windy Hill which is the first exit so get in the right lanes as your going from 285 to 75. At the exit, get in the left turn lane, Turn left of course and go across the bridge, as you go thru the light on the other side of the bridge the Halftime Sports Bar/Cafe is on your left. If you go thru the next light you've gone too far. It may be the third light you've gone too far, cant remember exactly but you'll see cars out there if you show up around noon.
