Just wondering if the number 1 and 3 caps are the same. I have a pair of steel main caps, and the one cap looks to be the same as the number 1 cap. Are they the same?

I just looked at a set of stock caps (loose) and, other than their markings (1 and III), one and three look the same to me. I would not treat them as interchangeable, however, unless you are going to have them (along with your block) line bored/honed.

Good luck,

Well the situation is I bought 2 sets of steel centers, but I want to use the front 3 caps on my other motor. Instead of ordering a front cap and waiting for it to come in before I start the machine work, I'd rather use the #3 cap from the other pair and then order the front cap later.

Can anyone confirm that 1 and 3 are the same?

You must have the engine line bored along with the caps you are going to use on the motor. You can't change the cap later without another line bore. Otherwise your bearing tolerance will not be correct.
