Are they the same? Or are they different, and if their different, how so?

Could i just Take the headers off a 86-87 and add a 86-87 Intercooler and make it into a I/C car?

Just some questions, cause im going to buy a 84 Hot-Air GN for around $1,700.00

Need some go-fast sugguestions please!;)

PS: I know the stock boost for the I/C cars is 15psi. How much is the Hot Airs? 12.5? 13? 13.5?

The 86/87 engine setup is totally different than the 84/85. In order to change an 84/85 to an 86/87 you will need a donor 86/87 car in order to get all the brackets/ intake/ intercooler/ computer and on and on and on. You can also upgrade the 84/85 using the recipe's on GNTTYPE.ORG for upgrading the 84/85. I have a restored 85GN and improved it to the stock 86/87 level. The math is- the 84/85 car is cheaper to buy and more costly the improve. The 86/87 car is more expensive and cheaper and easier to improve. I think that in the end it all equals out.

P.S. If I felt that I had a need to go into the 12's I never would have went with the hot-air. I am happy were I am at because eveybody thinks that my 85 GN is an 86/87. Only real fans of the cars can tell the difference. Make sure you know what you want the car to do before you jump into our world. Brad

If you want to convert an 84-85 GN to an 87, just buy the whole motor from an 87, or save some more $$$ and get the 86-87. It is a huge hassle to convert...If you want a rare, and possibly more valuable car in the future, go with the hot air and make it 100% stock and mint condition, and wait for the greenbacks! Going over the numbers, there were 20,000 1987 GN's and only 4021 84-85 GN's combined. Soooo...do the math...The only more rage GN is the GNX, next to the 84 GN and the 85 GN, so if you cant have a GNX, get an 84 GN and wait! The calue will go up, it is all just a matter of time!
