With my '86 my best was an 11.79 @ 116 with a 1.7something 60 ft. Stock untouched long block, PT51, V4, 50#'s, 3200 stall running 20#'s of boost. You have any DirectScan runs recorded? I think you should have more power left in that combo.
Tom, what are you running for suspension? I never had any luck at that track with drag radials, It took DOT slicks, air bags, nasty burnout and a 12# launch to get me in the 1.7's. The '87 I am going through this winter, changing a bunch of stuff and possibly adding some weight to the rear.

I am running air bags with 15psi on right and 5 psi on the left. I have tubular lowers and otherwise is stock. I have been doing a pretty good burnout and then "try" to leave at about 8psi boost. The bias street slicks do hook better and they are 15 inch rather than the 16 inch wheels that the radials are on. Funny thing is, I can build over 10psi boost on the street with the radials and launch with no spin. They just won't hook at our track. I'm praying a new track just might be the ticket!

Unsafe6, only the SM at this time. thinking about the datalogger, but when i spoke to Razor he said a WB would be alright along with the SM. so know i'm debateing. also thinking about upgradeing to a bb6776 turbo / 6152 with the mods i have. it's mostly street driven with occasional track time.

so the 12th is only 3wks away,:D how many of you will be joining me and tom? know since you guys have gone to that track- what do they look for as far as teching, in order to run? are they strict or give leahway what do they require? want to make sure we pass inspection. would hate to drive all the way down and not pass inspection- that would suck.

Does this mean we would not be able to run on sunday if we are not part of the clubs?

I'll be out there on the 13th.
Anyone is welcome to run on club days. If you want, tell them your with the Buick club.

Teching shouldn't be a problem, if your legal! Legal helmet, driveshaft loop, battery attached correctly, the normal stuff. Sometimes they test the neutral safety switch. If your running under 11.5 without a rollbar, they give a warning or two then put you on the trailer.

Last weekend I was out trying to dail in at 10.00. I ran a few 9.90's without getting "talked to".

Do they check for the loops? I have a 3.5 aluminum shaft with no loop.

I've never had them actually check for a loop, just ask if I have one.
You guys coming out for Saturday and Sunday?

I'm going to stay with friends in Tucson friday night and then drive up to the track on sat morning. Planning on getting a room up there sat and sun and then driving back on monday. Any ideas on the best place to stay? Would love to get together and BS cars and get some tuning help from someone who can make these cars fly. I'll buy the beer! Fellow GN owner Sylvan will be coming down with me but his car is down. Chris will also be there sat and sun. Tom

damn pass header is not sealing correctly. iv'e tried high temp- copper rtv, gasket even installed new grade8 bolts and still leaked after awhile.what should i put to seal before i head out that way.

You may need to take it off and have the flange ground true. It must be warped.

You MUST have the required safety equipment for the speed attained.

We have raced our cars there for years, and the tech guys know our cars do comply comply by having the proper safety equipment.

They will check a "new" car for the proper equipment, and especially a DS, loop if required.

Thanks for the input Nick, will get one installed before I come out. Any chance that you will be out that weekend?

11's

Hey Tom wish I was going with you guys sounds like fun, too short of Notice plus I just sold wheels and tires to pay for some brake work. What is the altitude there in Phoenix? You should be into the 11's easily since your 12.1 at 5500 ft.(what was the temp here when you ran that?) The conversion for sea level if in fact your going to sea level would be 0.9315 X's you ET(12.1) comes out to a 11.27615. Mark is right about tires al least get some ET drags and tubes. Think Mark used/likes Hoosiers. Glad to hear you still have your 86 Mark nice ride, don't you have Ed's 87? Have fun and congrats on your 11 second time slips.

Actually just looked up new NHRA altitude conversion and ABQ is only 5400 not 5500 so the conversion is 0.9451. So if your tune is on and your hookin could be mid 11's. Now if Phoenix is the same altitude or higher the conversion for Tucson at 3000ft is .9727 or 11.8-11.9. Looks like Phoenix is 1275ft above sea level cool you ought to have good times.

Phoenix

altitude is 1275 , was messing with an altitude hp to altitude change conversion looks like you gain approx 70- HP. Was figuring for you to run 12.1 here at 5400ft you have to be over 400hp approx 415-420 so in Phoenix you ought to be knockin on 500 hp door. Have Fun NM TOM

That is kinda what I was thinking also. Most the calculators say to run 114mph with a 3700 pound car comes to about 415 hp to the wheels. I will be taking my street tires (255\50-16) M\T drag radials and also a set of 26x10.5x15 M\T ET Streets bias cheater slicks. I will just be happy to cut a decent 60 and see at least a 11.99! Stocked up on Trick 110 today and I'm ready to go!

Chavo- i ran the 12.2 in alb. alb - elevation 5400, but that dosen't count the extra 500ft climb to the track itself. Tom and I will switch/out his 26s with my 28s and see if my mph will pickup in the 1320.as i can't mph over 107, but i sure can 60ft:smile:

HP and Altitude

That's what I figured 415-420 hp that's what Mr.Davis's old car ran as well low 12's he was always right on, on his dial in. He just barely busted into the high 11's a 11.97 at Roswell , he was still gettin used to the t-brake right before he passed. Car was at itis limit turbo and injector wise. He never went above 20lbs boost he just like bracket racing and had her dialed in wasn't the fastest but very consitant. Since purchasing the car from his widow took off the stock turbo and old school supercoupe injectors(30lbers) and went a lil bigger and added a Razor kit, translator,3.5 maf. Still old technology put in a Te44 and 009's. Should be a tad faster.

Wish I was going as my goals would be the same as yours to run in the high 11's without maxing her out, I would be happy with that.

Notsofast you may very well be right it could be a 500 ft altitude change. I was just using the altitude that the NHRA documents ABQ as being. They have Denver as being 500 ft higher. Good Luck guys and have a safe trip be sure and post.
