While I'm on my long quest for the perfect GN {ok ok, their all perfect:redface:} I've never considered anything other than a hard top. I'm not a fan of mid/late 80's GM t-top build quality. However I do find an occasional cherry GN with astroroof. 1987 Buick Regal Grand National, $24,995 - Cars.com Are these problematic? The car will see no track time. Thank you.

I like mine & only thing I need to do is replace outer rubber seal. Been saying that 5 years but as long as the drain tubes are clean it wont leak.

If the OP doesn't mind a small digression, what method do you use to keep the drain tubes cleared?

For the original post, the Wife's Regal ('87, in black, but with a V8) has the astro roof and there haven't been any issues with it. It is actually nice. Even when closed it gives a much more open feeling to the car. No leaks except when she leaves it open overnight and it rains

And during the nice weather she always has the astro roof up or open. So it does get quite a bit of use.

Mine works just fine--replaced outer seal about 5-years ago as it was leaking when I purchased it...But then, my power antenna still works just fine too! I did acquire an Astroroof "inner frame" seal too (before discontinuance of mfre)--for possible future need/use...

Mine works ggggrrrreat..

Though the owner befor me had a new headliner installed & they reversed the switch or the hookups. When i press fwd it opens.

I even have a complete spare setup stored away.

Thanks for the replies guys. Being a hard top guy, many of the cleanest ones I've stumbled on to have astro roofs.

blow compressed air in there.
I LOVE MY ASTROROOF CARS. t top cars are junk had 8 t top roofs i pulled apart were rotted under the metal plates. probably the only way to get a unrotted t top car around here is to get a low mileage garage queen

My two leak a bit. :p

One didn't start leaking until a rear end collision at 20 mph however.

The other one only drips on you when you take corners too fast in the snow or rain.
