Okay,

I am going to go out on a limb here. Are you running a turbo support bracket?

I'll dig out some pics of mine but my ATR headers cracked at the seam of the PS #2 pipe to the collector and in both DS and PS side collectors. I had them welded up. We'll see how long they last.

I havent been very pleased with the ATR headers I have seen.
I have their replacment driver side header on my GN and can note the following:
The flange was warped right out of the box
The stainless is 409 (same crap GM used on the stock headers.....I guess you can figure out already why they crack)
The ATR header looks rustier than the 15 y/o stock passenger side header
For what ATR charges for their race headers, you would expect atleast 304 if not 321 stainless, but then again they would be slightly heavier and would never crack

According to ATR, they are 304. My welder said they were 304.

ARe we being scammed?

Either way, the "never crack" ATR headers crack. Mine are 10 years old though.

they are about 18months old and they have 2000deg black coating on them
as for mods
50lbs , T70 turbo 9" conveter, 63mm TB ,FM IC ,wrap 3" ATR DP,adj FPR

I recommend not putting any coating on stainless headers. Coatings are high in aluminum and aluminum is very brittle. Tiny cracks that form in the coating can propogate into the base alloy. We see this every day in turbine repair (where the high temp header coating were developed)

Stainless is best left uncoated in our applications. Mild steel is more ductile and less prone to cracking when coated.

The usual location for cracking on ATR headers is near the heat affected zone of a weld. Your picture seems to show it right in the middle of the pipe.

yes you are right, its the welded joint , as if the weld came apart

the burnt look is from the black coating thats on them
i know the turbo is a bit big but its the one i am going to use with the other motor i am buliding with the works and the car have not been over 20lbs of boost..

i had coat it to try to reduce some of the heat

I have the ATR Headers on my car right now and they haven't cracked yet anywhere. They are still somewhat shiny and are 304 Stainless Steel. Your headers have lost some of the metal like it burned away and this can cause cracks. Your Turbo is too large for the injector size, aT70 needs at least 72# injectors. This can cause a lean out and melt the header tubes. (over 1600* is present at the header tube) With my headers they were rewelded at all the seams and the X-over and haven't cracked yet. (they often run cherry red) I checked all the flanges before installing the headers and after welding and they fit perfect. So these are my own findings and experiences. Gene
