Hey what's up i was thinking of getting a atr exhaust system but i didnt know wich one would be best. since im going to build a ta performance block and shoot for very low 10's or even dip into the 9's constantly, (hopefully by the middle of next year;) ) I would like to know witch ones would be the best.

I haven't seen anyone mention Torque Tech exhaust on this page, but its the best quality piping i've ever used. if you telll them you have a buick they give you 12% off. i have a dual 3" system on my GN and IMHO the Tailpipe exits look WAAAAY better than ATR or any competing systems. Kit w/o mufflers is 281 dollars.

No it's not stainless unless you drive on the beach it's not a problem. it's aluminized and for me, car is garage kept and only gets about 2000 miles a year. the pipe is bent bettter, and the angle of the exits looks right for the car. if you want to spend more for stainless, go right ahead. Torque tech doesn't sell stainless cause most people don't want or need it.

i guess if you live in chicago and drive in the salt with it stainless may bee good. in NC and SC it no problem

The best quality systems out there, for fit and finish are definately ATR. (I've tried them all, literally).

Their dual 3" system is probably the best choice if your car will be seeing some street use also. It's quieter than the single 3". Has a nice low big block rumble to it, and doesn't make all the interior noise the single 3" systems do.

atr single

I have the stainless atr single. It is a bit loud but i like it. Fit and finish is awesome.....:)

I've seen and heard many different systems over the years, but,,, I've never heard a single 3" that sounded worth a hoot! Yes, they are lighter weight for racing purposes, and yes, they'll get an equal amount of exhaust out, (since there is no such thing as a true duel for our cars).
However, they resonate inside, much like sticking your head inside a 55 gallon drum with a 1000 watt sub-woofer inside it! The tone and pitch is usually hideous for street driving, and they more resemble the "moose in heat" noises that you often hear from the Rice Racer crowds.
I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I guess I'm just giving a large endorsement for the duel exit setup for anything that will be driven regularly on the street. If it's gonna mostly be a track monster, then you'd benefit from the weight loss of the single setup.

My car has brand new stainless exhaust on it, that previous owner just had installed about 3 weeks before I got ahold of it. I forget exactly where he got it from.. I -think- ATR, but its just a basic, dual exhaust setup. It's single 3" pipe out from the cat, takes a 90 degree turn towards the driver side, then smoothly splits into dual, 2.5" pipes and dual mufflers, along each side, exiting behind the rear wheels, like normal. (With angled, chrome tailpipes nicely welded onto the ends.. definitely not a rice job.. looks good)

Not sure what the mufflers are either, but they dont seem terribly restrictive. It pretty quiet, but has a very nice low note at the rear of the car, especially at low RPM. I'll probably eventually change the mufflers out for something better. I was thinking Dynomax. (..no FlowRobbers)

Anyone have any opinions on the ATR / Pit Bull mufflers? What kind of performance? Quality? How do they sound? Anyone that can compare them to the Dynomax mufflers?

well you should hear mine with the ATR 3" single shot   you could be surprised ;)

The ATRs Pit Bulls flow VERY well. They are a strait through design. I did some research before I got my ATR 2.5 duels and on one on the site, they told me some nice facts: (1) they flow I think it was like 98% of a strait pipe, (2) they are only about 0.05 sec of a difference over strait pipe in ET, and (3) people have ran 9s on the 2.5 system.

Now about your sound question, my system drones. I love the sound and price of Dynomax. So I guess to sum it up………if you are looking for flow / performance, go with ATR, if you are looking for sound and price, go with Dynomax……………..just my 0.02!!!

Jay

Thanks Jay. By droning you mean that low howling-like sound? I've heard this expression so many times, but never sure what anyones meant by it.

I've heard so many Dynomax systems that sound great. A friend of mine has a set on a '96 Camaro w/ the 3.8, and it sounds like a V8 at idle and normal highway driving RPMs. It's just that once he really gets in it, then the signature V6 sound can be heard a little. They really do sound awsome. And since I'm not hardcore racing the GN, I might just go with the Dynos. They still flow great; much better then whats on it now I'm sure.

I have the Single Shot. It is loud but it sounds good and I like it that way.:D

If you like the louder exhaust then go with the single for cost savings, weight savings, and easier to install. If noise is a concern, go with the dual.

If you wanna hear a "moose in heat", move north, eh!!

duels

I have atr 3 " duels, and like them very much, cant really tell the difference between the dump beeing on or off performance wise, but definately quieter, what more can you ask except cheaper.

My car does that now with the duals. Well, sort of. When I first fire it up, it idles up to around 1800 rpm or so, then slowly drops down to around 1000 to 900. But somewhere inbetween there as its going down it sounds like a jet engine howling like when they're shut off and the turbine slows down. Sounds kinda evil, I like it. :D

I have the ATR 3'' dual with pit bull muffs sounds like a big block at idle, excelet system for fit and quality instald it in my garage with no problems at all about two hours after old system was removed getting every thing lined up stright was what took the most time :D
