ok before anyone says lets post this in the kill section I am asking for advice
the story is just a baseline for my performance
I was at a light with a friend with a 2000+ mustang GT

we raced and I won but it was fairly close and only about 200-300 feet I was pulling really hard at about 3rd though but I thought I should of pulled him from the launch too?

my question is are they that fast or is my car way out of tune
I have alot of bolt ons but I thought I could of pulled him really bad
here are my mods
adj FPR
hotwire
walbro 340
volt booster
THDP 3" test/dump
hooker exhaust
nitto 555R
NO POSI
RJC power plate
Big Neck intercooler
big mouth intake
gauges
torque converter lock up (wasnt used)
variable rear springs
moog replacements in front
I was running roughly 17PSI on 94 octane

should I have beat him worse or just as I did

I asked him what he had and he said something like 280 hp

just thought I would throw this part in though when we were talking after
he is my friend but hes a domestic ricer

he starts the convo saying that he will have 700 HP in about a year

he said with mass air flow sensor, intake, chip he will be at 350 hp

he said after aftermarket heads he will have 450

and then after a super charger he will be over 700

I asked him how he thinks the rear end and transmission will hold and he said "well I will just thoroughly go through the engine and make sure its built then"

1 more thing

there is a kid with a 88 5.0 he has a vortech and all the bolt ons including cam and heads
I was told he has 500HP

everyone thinks its the fastest car in the world and I want to destroy him, now before anyone gets smart what can I really do to beat him, he ran a 13.2 :o but this kid I met today with the GT said he was in 11's:rolleyes: so I said why doesnt he have a roll cage?

sorry for the book guys

thanks

Carl

It's tought to pull him from a launch without a positraction. My old 5.0 would do 2.0 - 2.1 60 fts on street tires when it was stock. Even with nitto's, it's tough for a TR without a posi to get much better than this in street trim (No 25 psi in the right side airbag)

If you both were to run a full 1/4, I would guess his car would run about 98-99 mph and yours around 102-103, so you can see the race would be fairly close. Race gas and chip, you would be in the next county as he crossed the finish line.

I love when you guys post these kind of threads after street rodding it with whoever. Well to answer your question and some of the research ive done:

The 2002 mustang gt does the quarter mile in just under 15 ticks, somewhere in the neighbor hood of 14.8 to 14.9 still not as fast as the stocker grand national which was 14.4 i believe back in 87. The gts are not that fast, dont be fooled by the sound of them. That the only thing that they have going for them is the throaty V-8. They have 260 ponies stock out of the crate:o You will have to get him off the line though, even then if you dont, you will catch him and pass him before the quarter is up:D running 17psi of boost should not be a problem in a short squirt. Just make sure you build a little boost of the line to get the turb all happy:D but not too much or your tires will just break loose and that is where he will get you. Just a couple of few pounds worth. I raced one a while back, not sure what year it was, but from a 30mph roll i let him cheat:D i heard him down shift then i had to punch it kinda from the roll which i had not boost at the time:mad:

Yes, do yourself a favor and get posi. Some more easy power with your combo would be a bigger intercooler. Also being a pegleg, I pray you have airbags back there .

FYI, Domestic Rice = OATMEAL

:D

Any way let me finish, i hit the enter button by accident
 almost forgot what i was going to say. So he got me by about a half of car length because i was late on the boost and he had already down shifted at this point and heard his motor scream as he went into second:o NO PROBLEM THOUGH i caught him in a matter of about two seconds, as soon as the turbo spooled up and then passed him at about 100 feet into the blast. By the way i was only running 14psi of boost:eek: And this is a true story:D so dont worry your car should be able to blow the doors off the gts just put yourself in the right conditions, then look in your rear view mirror

Stock '99-'03 GT's are rated at 260hp. Most pull 220-230rwhp.
he said with mass air flow sensor, intake, chip he will be at 350 hp
He's living in Dreamland. If he runs a big Pro-M meter, spends $1300 on the Bullit intake and even gets a custom burned chip, he'll be lucky to pull 260-270rwhp. That's about 300-310hp at the flywheel.
he said after aftermarket heads he will have 450
What aftermarket heads? To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket heads for 4.6 2V cars. A set of ported 2V heads would show minimal gain without set of cams. Even then...look for 20-30rwhp.
and then after a super charger he will be over 700
Not likely. There are 4.6 2V cars making over 500rwhp with boost, but most are in the 350-400rwhp range if well tuned.
Sounds like this guy is uninformed, and counts on those he talks to to be uninformed too.

At least. A well tuned 5.0 (stock short block) with heads/cam and boost can hit 500rwhp. Most, however, are in the 400-450rwhp range.

13.2 would be a very underachieving time for that 5.0. FWIW...I went 13.0@110mph in my pig-heavy '95 GT with nothing more than a Kenne Bell blower, 190lph fuel pump, MSD 6AL and Pro-M MAF. This was on radials with stock 3.08's.
The GT owner claiming to run 11's is full of sh*t...plain and simple.

Maybe at your track. I've seen bone stock '99-'02 GT's run 13.8's. I've also seen them run mid-14's. My buddy's '01 GT 'vert with an automatic went 14.3 with his wife driving. Her first time at the track too. Well driven, a 5-speed car will run 14.0's +/- .2. Add ~.3 for an automatic.

Im sorry I messed up on the one part
It wasnt supposed to sound like it did

the guy with the 2000 GT didnt run 11s he said the other 5.0 one did

The Mustang Corbras are doing 13.7-13.8 in stock trim.
The Mustang GTs are doing 14.6-14.7 in stock trim.

From a reliable source:D

That's in Las Vegas. Snorman lives at sea level.

Yea guess you would have to account for a few tenths there.

I guess since im on a roll, anyone that was curious:

The Mustang Cobra squirts through the quarter in 13.7-13.8
The Mustang GT struggles through the quarter in 14.6-14.7
The Mustang Corbra-R gets there through the quarter in 12.7-12.9
The Corvette Z06 slams through the quarter in 12.4-12.6
The Trans Am Ram Air will do the quarter in 13.4-13.6

And well then....well then there is our cars:D I will say no more.

From the reliable source, and of course roughly 2500 above sea level.

Maybe you should amend your post to state..."from what I've seen" or "where I am".
As I have stated previously, '99-'02 Mustang GT's regularly run ~14.0's. I've seen many with my own eyes. In fact, I actually have timeslips from ones that I've run against.
And LS1 F-bodies running 13.4's@2500ft.? I'm not too sure about that. I see them running 13.4's at sea level tracks.

My buddies t-type runs low 14's with some mods. Its heavy...and could be faster if tuned properly. But I raced a 99 GT and launched with .5lbs of boost off the line and smoked this kid. He is a real puts. But it wasn't even my car. I wasn't used to it. I have also raced stangs in my T. I'm sure they were mostly stock....but i smoked them. Mustangs suck.

car and driver once tested a t-type that ran 13.8 @ 100 mph

car and driver once also tested a 86 GN that ran 13.9 @ 99 mph

on a cold day our cars bone stock WILL do 13.8-14.1 @ around 98-102 mph

a bone stock GNX will do 13.2-13.4 @ 104 mph

now take away all the bs that buick put on it (restrictive exhaust, turn up the boost, race chip, slicks, race gas) and you have yourself potential LOW 12's if tuned properly with stock parts...let's see a new rustang do that!:D
