Hi, I'm currently window shopping for a GN, and I'm just wondering if there is a quick way to tell what model a given car is by the VIN? Like how to distinguish between a black T-Type, Turbo T, or WE4 from an actual GN.

a GN was essentially an interior and appearance package on top of the T Type up thru the 86 model year, so the vin on one of them will come back as a T Type.

go to Turbo Regal Web Site to find out what to look for to tell a GN from a T Type or regular Regal.

The VIN won't tell you anything other than the 8th digit should be a 7 which means it originally had the 3.8 turbo motor.

The RPO tag on the inside of the decklid however will give you what you need to know. WE4 is obviously code for WE4. WE2 is for a GN, G80 is posi, etc.

This link should keep you busy for a while: Buick Turbo Regal Option Codes (Regular Production Options - RPO)
