Rogue Leader, can you tell me why my insurance goes up if soemeone hits me and I file a claim against their insurance company???

As I said before everything is different for each person.. Some people have accidents and it doesnt affect their rate... Sometimes the way the company is underwriting you, maybe youre "on the edge" due to all the factors (maybe tickets, driving experience, number of drivers, location, useage, anything), and even though the accident is not your fault, it still is an occurence and maybe youre going form someone who has none or only 1 minor one, to now two or whatever, not in all cases though.

There really is no good explanation of this unless you talk to an Actuary (person who designs the underwriting system) and even then I dont think any of us would get it. Basically though theres not much you can do, many states also even though the accident is not your fault, companies can raise you because youre always considered partially at fault because thats a risk you take for just being on the road.

BTW a lot of this came about due to the MASSIVE amounts of insurance fraud there is in this country, everyone who gets rearended thinks they are gonna become an instant millionaire, and too many people are trained to say "my neck hurts!" when in reality its BS... pretty sad actually

BTW that Progressive "rates from another company" is a scam too. In some cases yes the other company will be cheaper, because you meet the criteria that Progressive got the rate at...

Do you think any company in their right mind is gonna release their underwriting system to their main competitor?? They just get some genral generic rates for a single guy with a generic car, or married couple, throw in a ticket or 2 whatever and put that rate in there.... In some cases it works out good for you, in most cases its skewed against the other company, like i said not everyone is the same and its impossible to plan for everything...

Geico didn't raise my rate, but Progressive was going to. Me and the wife have spotless records. Like I said before, its war, I've been taken advantage of by insurance companies since I was 16 (16 yrs ago) and I've never cost them a penny.

Ahh... another satified Progressive customer... Thats how their "Preferred" category works... 1 occurence and youre screwed...

i went thru the same deal with progressive 2 yrs ago, they doubled my rate without warning because i did not submit my old insurance card to them to prove i had previous insurance. they refused to contact my old insurance company. i tried to cancel but they billed me for 3 more months. i didn't pay those sacks a penny. my fiancee is with progressive (until we get married), she had a fender bender in her 4000 mile new chevy trailblazer last week and they are making us put used parts on the truck. the difference in price in the "remanufactured" parts and new parts is 97 dollars and they refuse to pay it. i screamed the point that she will be dropping them in september when we get married.
