I'm wondering if the Auto Meter gauges require use of there own brand (auto meter) senders or can u jus use the stock or another sender. Reason I ask is I'm installing two electric Auto Meter gauges - Oil Pressure & Water Temp. Neither which came with senders. However, I do have a sender I was to given but it's not an auto meter.

Does this really even matter how the gauges will function? My water temp gauge does read higher than my scan master by like 15-25°. Even at cold start it's registering about 20° Higher. It's a short-sweep gauge. Just wonders if I should try an Auto Meter sender instead.

Thanks in advance for the help!

In some cases it doesn't matter, I can't think of one off hand, but if your using the gauges for referencing and not accuracy, i.e. do I have oil pressure or not!? rather than I have low oil pressure @ 12#s, it won't matter. I would normally by the matching senders so there 's not a question of calibration differences. There may be differences in reference voltages, i.e. 4.0v, 5,0v etc. which will require an adapter for accuracy.

Awesome! Thanks for he reply. I appreciate the feedback. I went ahead & orders one. Might as well check. Eliminate the easiest.

If you ordered the gauges new, they should have had the senders with them.

Try calling Autometer. Ask if you can order just the senders....
I went to Pep Boys yesterday since I knew they carried Auto Meter gauges. They carry the senders separately. I had to order them & they will be here in 3-5 days. $20 for Temp sender & $42 for the Oil Pressure sender.

Update: I installed the Auto Meter version of the oil pressure & water temp senders to replace the random sender I had since I purchased the gauges from a member here with no senders (he sent me spares he had). Before my water temp was reading anywhere from 10 to 25 degrees off compared to the scan master. Now with the correct senders that typically come with the Auto Meter gauges new, its almost dead on with the scan master. In most cases, its a few degrees lower that the scan master (within 2-4 degrees). The water temp sender at top of the Manifold that is linked with the ECM is the original I believe. Its getting kind of corroded, so I was leaning into replacing it since I replaced everything else in the car. Anyways, just wanted to update everyone just incase you have ever wondered that for your self. Some people say it shouldn't matter, some say it does. In this case for me it did matter which one I used.

Thanks!
