I called a airport after reading this and was like do you have low lead AV fuel? The guy working there was like sure. I did not tell him that I was using it for a car not a plane, but when I asked him where the pumps were on the site and that I did not know that airport that well, he did not understand. So I asked him again if I could just come in with two 5 gal jugs..............I'll have to ask my manager.:( How do you guys get in, do you just walk up and act like you own the place or what?

Jason

where i go its pay at the pump. credit or debit. havent ever talked to any one about it. but i cant drive up. just take 2 5 gal jugs and ur good to go.

I get my AV gaz from a MARINA where there is HYDROPLANE and HIPERFORMANCE cigarette BOATS , it's a lot easier there than to try to buy it at a standard AIRPORT . They are used to see a lot of guys fill up 5 gals containers for their BOATS , without asking any questions . My mix per tank is around 4 gals of 94 octane gaz, 4 gals of exylene and 4 gals of AV gaz . It really works like HELL and I run that mix all the time with o2 sensor change every second season .;)

I also used a local airport and it was like a gas station I would drive up run my debit card pump and go. I ran about 4 gals per tank and was able to run around 3 lbs more boost. But now that I have akly I dont need it. By the way I was paying 2.10 a gal.

oh and the way I was using it, it would eat an O2 about every 3 months or so. Good thing for warranties!!:D

Goal: Cheap 100 Octane Fuel

For those of you not near an airport, or for any other reason that you don't want to run AV gas, you can make a 100 octane brew for ~ about the same $/gal.

After some haggering with the manager at Sherwin Williams, I was able to set up an account and get xylene (117 octane) at $4.23/gal. With a 30% mixture of gas/xylene (& ~ 2 oz. Mystery oil/10 gal), at $1.70 for 91 octane pump gas, it comes to $2.46/gal for 100 octane fuel. No lead.

But about 5 years ago, I used to drive right onto the tarmack at the Santa Monica airport and have them pump AV gas right into the tank of my '68 Chevelle SS396.

SCORE!!!
I just talked to a friend of mine that I work with, who has a plane and he told me that he could get AV low lead for about $2.29 /gal.;) :D :) The airport that his plane is at is about 10 mins from our work. This is the best thing that has happen to me all week!!!!!!

Now that I know where to get the gas. Does anyone know where to get a 50 or 55 gal drum?

Thanks,
Jason

Someone else will have to answer why one can use pure xylene, but all I know is you can run only up to a 30% mixture w/regular gas safely (w/the Mystery oil)

I'm most curious to know what the exact formula for like C16 race gas is. Anyone?
