what is the most I can get away with? I am buying some telstar rims.15x8 or 7 or what will I need for the rear?

With an 8" rim, stick with 4" max backspacing. This should allow a 275 tire to fit.

For a 7" rim, about 3.75".

I ran a set of 15x8 Telstars with 4" backspacing and 275/60/15s. Worked great. If the back end was really loaded and the car went over huge bumps it would rub the wheel lip. That was pretty inoften though.
