I am getting really bad engine noise from my speakers. What exactly causes engine noise? Do those noise filters work? Here is my set-up:
Alpine head unit-4v pre out
Rockford fosgate components in the front
Boston 3.5 in the rear(because of cage)
2 Phonix Gold 10s in the trunk
RF Punch 200 for the subs
Eclipse 4 channel for the front and back speakers
Thanks,
Tony

Motor noize!

Here are a couple of problems that cause engine noize:

1) Ground loop problems ( too many different grounds ).

2) Bad ground (head unit or amplifier).

3) Nicked insulation on speaker wire or pre-amp cable touching ground.

4) Power wire run next to pre-amp cable on or near metal.

5) Bad ground connection inside equipment.

6) Spark plug wires with high RFI.

Those noize suppression filters are band-aids that really do not work. With todays technology, you should never have to use a filter. If you have noize problems, that means one or more of the following can be wrong and needs to be corrected. Here are a few tips to help shield against motor noize:

1) Always ground components at one point in car, preferably at frame ground. You can use body ground, but is not the best choice.

2) Keep power wires away from signal wires ( pre-amp & speaker wires ) near metal surfaces.

3) Make sure that all connections of power and ground are solid connections and ample size wiring.
