Bad MAF..but good #'s?

Could my MAF sensor be bad but still get good(5-7)AF numbers on my scanmaster?

HAte to put another post about my bad idle/miss/popping problem but the MAF is the only thing left to check before I pull valve covers and check for wiped lobe.

If you unplug the MAF, does the car then idle fine? While it's plugged in, tap the outside of the plastic casing with a screwdriver handle -- does this cause the car to stumble worse?
If you end up answering yes to either/both, then it's likely the MAF.
