banging converter???

I have a loud banging noise coming from my torque converter. Real loud at cold start-up. I have stock turbo set-up with stock injectors. I bought a orange stripe converter with 2800-3000 Stall, is this to much for stock turbo?? Will be upgrading to a ta-49 with 50's soon. Any suggestions on converter, or will the orange stripe be o. k.

Orange stripe will be fine. Make sure that the orange stripe is the street brawler version (It has an upgraded stator from a caddy). If you bought it from Cottons or another turbo buick vendor it should be the better version.

I have a stock turbo/injectors and I am running a 10.5 3000 stall converter and it works great with this combo. Also gives me roon to upgrade turbo.

The converter in my car used to whine especially when it was cold and in reverse. Never really paid much attention to it until I gave it part throttle one day and presto no forward or reverse gears. Moral of the story replace the converter ASAP. You might damage the tranny if you don't.

Make sure your converter bolts and/or flywheel bolts are tight

Another guy recently had converter bolts bottomed out causing the same kind of noise.

this may sound stupid but it's worth a try, i had my converter bolts come loose scared the %^& out of me i thought i hurt the motor it was banging like a knock. tightend the converter bolts noise was gone
