baseline drag racing ??

Before I start making physical mods of performance items I bought to my GN I would love to get a baseline on my GN in stock formation.
What are some tips that I can do for GN?

I have drag raced big assed american cars so some tips always stay the same like High front tire pressure, good gas about 1/2 to 3/4 tank full so pickup stays in fuel.

The track I would be using is New England Dragway 90 feet above sea level & the tower lane is always quicker every car I raced there.. I plan on going in the eveing because like GN's I hate heat.
I have seen a bunch of GN Guys like 15 or 20 GN's there before & seen lots of ICE on the motors in the stage lanes. Why & where on the motor are they applying the ice?

Any launching tips, What gear? 3 or OD ?????

In the 1/4 mile run in drive, because it will want to short shift into OD if you put it in OD. This can result in knock and/or take the car out of the ideal power band.

On hot days a bag of Ice on the intercooler will give you the most bang for your ice buck. I spray the intercooler with water in the pits and let evaporation get the intercooler temp down near the atmospheric dew point (works great on low humidity days). Then you can set an Ice bag on it and get it really cold (If you set an ice bag on a hot intercooler, it will melt quickly). You will notice a reduction in ET and an increase in MPH by doing this.

Icing down the top of the motor will help, too, but not as much as doing it to the intercooler.

You may want to think about adding a fuel pump as quickly as possible. Even minor mods like an aftermarket chip and a K&N cone filter can max out the stock pump.

at least an intank fuel pump adj fuel pres regulator k&n airfilter.
depending on the money maybe a chip and bigger fuel injectors.

I got the KN Kone & intake pipe. Also got a test pipe.

Your right fuel pump/regulator are a must.

I like the ULTRACHIP & thinking of getting that too.

160 thermostat is on the way & new oil & AC filter along with plugs.

I can't wait to install this stuff but need that baseline.

If u want a base line that bad i would at least get a scanmaster to monitor o2 and knock. that way if u start to lean out or/or get knock u can get your lead foot of the pedal.

Couldn't I make 1 pass without scan master without worry?

I figure if I stop at the Texaco & fill 1/2 race gas that should avoid any knock. The station is 1/2 mile from track.

Prior for the drive up I can use ULTRA SUNOCO for about $1.50 gallon.

Would it be ok to mix the two gases?? & use up the rest driving home..

Seriously, you need to know what the car is doing or you can hurt it. It'll cost you about $500 to get what you need for starters: 307 or 340 fuel pump, $80 - $90; billet top adjustable regulator, $60 - $75; hotwire for fuel pump, $20 if you do a homemade one (easy instructions on gnttype); 30/30 boost gauge, $50; 100 psi fuel pressure gauge w/line to put under wiperarm so you can see it, $80; Turbolink (if you have a laptop) $150 or ScanMaster $250. Now you can establish that baseline and have immediate information; it's the price of admission.
