When i got in my 87 buick gn yesterday it started but barely. I went to the store came back and started the car again...this time barely started....not a chugging sound like it was strying to start but just a dead start. got home stopped the car then thought id try and start it again...nothing. anyway is this problem the starter itself or the alternator? Most of you guys should know this right off but im not mechanic.... :( thanks for any feedback.

if this is the starter i thought i saw a starter on here a few months ago....smaller and lighter for 87 GNs....are these any good and where can i get one? Thanks again.

Howdy,

Get a known good battery and try to start the car that way. If it starts easily with the new battery its the alternator not recharging your system. If still does the same thing, its the starter. This is a generalized help, I've not even started working on GN's yet but this should apply to all cars.

Hope this helps,

shouldnt be the battery as its new put in 1year ago....not saying its impossible but i wouldn think its the battery......thanks for the feedback.
