My son has an '87 GN with some mods - at track once last year, turned mid 13's, with MPH of 106.8.
We're told it needs a looser convertor for the big turbo thats on it (currently has a 2,500 stall speed). Unfortunately a couple of weeks after the E-Town outing, trans started slipping on 1-2 shift,
and eventually 2nd went away. Car went away for Winter and we did not have time or money to replace trans (we opened a new store last May, all $'s and time going into that...).
We were thinking of picking up a used trans to put in so he can at least get to cruise around a bit with nice weather coming.
Will a Olds 442 trans work - if he doesn't drive it too hard too often ? Unless we can locate an original GN trans, reasonably priced, in good working order, within driving distance of Dutchess County NY (Poughkeepsie area).
Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks - Rich

any good used 2004r will work but the performance wont be the same .the shift points may be undesirable and the length of time it will last may be questionable.the 442 core is of the hi performance nature and will work fairly well with the 3.42 rear axle ratio too.just put in a 27 tooth drive gear so the speedo works with the drive gear on the governor
