Any real info available describing the differences between a base carb V6 87 Regal trans and the GN trans?

I have a good 70K mile trans and curious if it can be upgraded if necessary..... Thanks for any input....

You don't say what you have so I'm guessing it is the base regal trans. While these can be upgraded, it is sometimes easier to go directly to the performance one.
The pressure regulation valves and spring are different. I would go even larger than the factory brf valves. The stuff for the 700r4 is readily available and fits the 2004r pump. While you are into the pump i would go with some new hardened rings, and a stiffer slide spring, and a though inspection of the rest of the parts to make sure they are in good shape.
The valve body and governor can be up graded but again it is easier to go to a performance set. The springs and vlves are of different diameters and tensions and this acts with the governor weights and spring(s) to give shift points at various rpm.
The 2nd servo in the brf is the largest factory size for a 2004r. It is denoted by a "694" as the last three numbers of the casting code. There are larger servos that came in the th200 and th200c but I have yet to come across one though I have seen pix. The aftermarket has filled this need and ck, superior and sonnax have non adjustable units and there is an adjustable unit one of our venders sells.

Anything that came out of an 87 model should be seriously considered a core and be overhauled. Those clutches, bands and plastic bushings ain't new. Lots of better clutch materials and sure since way back then.
