Ok battery has been unhooked for 5 years while I was working on the car. It had maybe 50 to 100 miles on it when the car was parked. Threw the charger on it tonight and set it on 2 amps to give it a slow charge. The second I plugged it in the battery started humming. Tried plugging and unplugging a few times and it is still doing it. Anyone ever experience this before?

Its very possible you have a shorted cell, if it starts bubbling acid you will know....

I had a battery blow the lid off once. Thankfully the hood was down so nobody got hurt, but the engine bay got sprayed. IMO if the battery is making funny noises I'd get a fresh one to put in its place.

^^^^What he said, had one blow up too and blistered the paint on the fender on a 70 Chevelle.

Think it would help to top it off with distilled water? Just buy a new battery?

This spring I had the battery in my lawn mower blow up on me. Not only did I need a new battery I needed a new pair of boxers too! Change out the battery while you still have your eyesight and clean shorts!

You're gonna end up probably having to replace that battery not too far down the road anyways if it isn't an AGM cell type battery with the age of the battery along with how long it sat unused. Do the safe and smart thing by getting another battery before you have to spend more money than just for a new battery. A potentially flaky battery in a TR is asking for alot of trouble in a quick hurry.

Like everyone else has said, change the battery. Had one go bad on me just like what you are talking about. Not worth losing eyes or getting hurt over.

X3 on the new battery. How many years do you usually get from one? IME you are getting to the end at 5 years and are on borrowed time.

In that 5 year span it had maybe 50 miles on it.

Put a new AC Delco battery in it today.

Haven't started it yet. Need to pump the 5 year old gas out of it and change the fuel filter.
New battery came pre charged, dome lights came on when I popped the door open.

It still might be a good idea to hook up a battery charger to it to see if it is fully charged.

I learned this from a bad experience about 6 months ago when i bought my new battery. Everything looked good; engine started right up,lights worked, scanmaster numbers good. First time i got into the throttle it was a different story car ran so bad i almost didn't make it back to the house under it's own power but it did barely. I hooked up the battery charger and sure enough the charge was low. I spent the next couple of days doing a slow charge on it to get it fully charged and to ensure it was going to hold a charge and that it wasn't a faulty battery issue. Even though it has a good warranty on it,it's not worth a damn when your on the road and it craps out.
