If I remember correctly, the major advantage that ballbearing design turbos have is that they reduce lag for normal street cruising, like if you accelerate to speed, then accelerate again to pass, it would spool quicker to pass because the turbo is still spinning at a high RPM, however through the quarter mile, there is no real benefit. And if I had a BB turbo, I would be more concerned with letting it idle and spool down before I shut the car off then I would with a normal turbo. And IMHO, a 2800 stall is the perfect match for a TE44(I run a TE44/2800 stall) and yes it spools better then stock D5.
