It was from my wife....who consequently hates the Buick. "It rides rough, it shifts too hard, it's too loud - all which I normally consider, well....compliments.

We went to a end of the year party (she's a school teacher) last Thursday. We took the Buick because it was a nice day and I get that priveledge because I volunteered to be the designated driver.

So after the party we head out onto the tollway. I used every bit of the on-ramp. Slowly rolled into it to get up to highway speed (which was achieved about 60' out of the booth). She basically told me to cool it.

So we're about 5 miles from the house and I plead with her.
"look, I have been working on this car for 8 years. You have been patient and supportive with my addiction. I am going to show you how all of that payed off for me." - "don't kill us".

About a 35 roll on a back street at 10:00pm. Put the plastic to the firewall. She grabbed my arm, door strap, anything that was bolted to the car. Her legs went straight out under the glove box in a fit of tension. I back out at "85 mph". "That didn't feel like 85". I didn't have the heart to tell her it was more like 110.

We get home, go inside and sit on the couch. She then starts asking me why I like the car soo much. Then she said what I consider to be the pinacle of what I have been trying to accomplish all these years.

"That thing is un-natural. It almost hurts when you give it gas."

Next week we will introduce her to the MT Sportsmans and the T-brake.

Pretty sure once I let her make a pass at the track, she will be hooked too.

She has put up with soo much shchit with me and this car. When people at school ask her what kind of car that is your husband drives. She is versed enough to say -

"It's a Buick Grand National"
"What kind of engine?"
"3.8 liter turbo V6 with an intercooler"

The shop teacher loves her.

Still safe to say....If I bought another one of these, there would be a high heel sticking into my larynx.

No sisters, but she is for rent. How else am I going to pay for that billet PTE?

What part of CT are you from Brett?

I'm from Groton/New London. Now I'm a Texan. Still go back up there twice a year to visit my in-laws and dad's restaurant.

I miss the South County beaches of RI.

We reside in import land:rolleyes: Bridgeport area. Also known as the end of the world! Come check us out when ur in town.

I must be lucky, wife cried when i sold my first GN and said she wouldnt sign pink, unless i promised we would buy another one. needless to say two year later we bought another one.

My wife has bigger balls than I do. If the car starts going sideways I'll let out and she will say "Why'd you do that? Le ME drive!" And then she will drive it and I have to yell at her to let out of it before we're pointing the wrong directions.

Of course, my little woman was raised at the track and played pit crew for her daddy from the time whe was 8. ;)

I let her take it out once without me, and when she got back my rear quarters were plastered with rubber and the tires were steaming hot. LOL!, love that lil gal but she's nuts!

We need a thread dedicated to the women who LET us play with these things. They have gone unappreciated for too long!!

Then you can just link them to this thread, they see how you talked them up, they say "aaaawwww" and you get a permission slip for more parts!

I'M A GENIUS!!

as all good ideas from man.....some how this will back fire.

That quote needs to be in your signature.

My wife hates my cars with a passion. BUT, she tolerates them, and that's all I ask.

When the car was stock the wife would drive it now & then & actually liked it. Comfortable seats, cold air etc but now that its consumed 1/2 my life & $$$ she hates it! Too loud etc BUT she always asks what was your timeslip saying this weekend. She used to come every weekend in 91-92 & I mean Every Weekend when I bracket raced in the Sunoco Point series. Now its 2 times a summer when its not to busy at the track. She knows it keeps me out of trouble so she puts up with it. She better cuz I have been known to get in trouble in my younger years! ;)

I'm blessed that my wife has never disliked any of my "play" cars. (4 G-Bodies)
However, she doesn't approve of any full throttle antics on the street.

I think she fully understands the intrigue of the Turbo Buick cars now. She has always known my burning desire to own a TB, but more so a 1987 GN.

We recently attended a very large car show/swap/cruise in Wisconsin Dells known as Automotion (search Automotion Dells on Youtube), and she was totally blown away at all the people who flocked to the car to see it, talk to us, & hearing people say "Is that a Grand National ?..... OH MY GOD IT IS!!" and then bee-line over to it.

She "gets it now"

My wife use to drive our GN everyday 60+ miles aday to work and back. The car ran high 11's and every once in awhile my kids would come in from a grocery store run with mom, and proclaim after running through the front door "DAD!!!!.....DAD!........Mom just BEAT a Corvette!!!" My wife would then say, "SHHHHhhhhhh! I told you not to tell!" She was the first to make a 110mph pass down the track. I told her it was just becasue the "air got better". (it was really becasue she was 50+lbs light than me) In our old age, she doesn't really like to feel the big power the car makes today. I think there are still two DEEP black marks in front of the Police station where she layed down about 60ft. of rubber with the kids in the car! Now she wonders why our sone like to drive so fast. She alwyas blames ME.....now that I think about it, SHE is the one who drove tham around in a GN.
