Need to get a camcorder for work, I'm a graphic artist, and need some input on which ones are the best. I've seen that most of the new HD cameras can record at 1080p, but to output it, it can only be at 720. I'm looking in the $1000-1500 range. I don't need a pro model. Most of the video would be put in presentations, website, etc, so HD isn't really necessary, but don't want to buy something out of date, so I'm looking in the HD HDD market.

TIA

I was wondering the same? But not looking to spend that much. Ill have to research that.

in my research, I'm finding that if you want HD quality, its best to stay away from the HDD cameras. The codec software is not up to date with the data coming out of the camera and all the current software to edit the video is a PIA.

Looking at the Canon HV20 or HV30. The 30 is this years model, and the 20 is last years model. Was voted best hd camera of the year by a few websites. I think the 20 is down in the 600 range now that the 30 is out.

I just ordered my HV20 Last night for $608 shipped. I've been doing a lot of research as well and this is the camera to go with from what I've read (or the HV30 - almost the same). As far as 720p goes, that can be converted with editing software.
