I've got my motor down and I'm ready to make the jump to Razor's kit. My question is, is there a better material to make the tank out of instead of using the plastic tanks. The reason I ask is that I have access to bronze and brass bulk material and I can weld/braze these materials. I was thinking of making my own tank and mounting it in the trunk along side the pump. Has anybody researched this or know off hand if brass or bronze would hold up ?

All you need is a plastic fuel cell like the ones Jazz or RCI make. Your next best would be stainless.. Guess anything could be done.. but fuel cells are safe when properly strapped down and vented.

I dont know of anyone ever making a cell out of bronze/brass. Not that it cant be done.. just dont know.

Trunk Cell

Simple, cost effective.. And the weight would also be an improvement.

So the plastic won't break down over time and get brittle.......reason I ask, years ago , a vendor, I don't remember who, had an alky kit that included a brass or bronze tank......just trying to save a penny if I could.....thanks for the info......

That would of been a BGC system.. those tanks were fugly :D

Look at your bottle of rubbing alcohol.. they never get brittle. I guess 10 years from now your tank may be brittle.. then you go to GM and buy another one for 20 bucks. Thats why used 20 year old tanks are not used ;)

Careful with the penny's not costing ya dollars

Point well taken........I found a 2 gallon cell that would work fine on Jaz's website.......LeeO or I will be in touch with you soon....Thanks

Remember all fittings will need to be removed. I typically use the one gallon ones.. way cheaper. The Jr. Dragster one will save you a bunch.

Ohh.. watch that LeeO guy

...........been watchin' him for about 39 years.....thanks for the heads-up... :D

I can't remember the name of the site, but there is one that shows the combatibility of different materials to different chemicals including Methanol. Only certain plastics are compatable. No worries with stainless. Brass or Bronze? I agree with Razor on that one. It would be a lot of work to make one of those look good.

Brass, bronze, copper, die cast zinc are to be avoided with methanol.
