I'm going to be re-ringing one of the cylinders in my engine soon, and was wondering what the best rings to buy would be. Its a 90% stock hot-air (85), and I've never installed or messed with rings. I was looking for what set of rings would be the best for durability, and would be simple to install. I don't know if you can file-fit rings without using one of those special ring grinders, but if you can't, then I guess file-fit rings are out.

also, when you buy a set of rings, do they usually come as a full set (upper, lower, and oil control) or do you have to order each component separately. Also, can you buy just one cylinder, or would I have to buy a set of 6/8?

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but in a search all i could find were recommendations for either modified engines, or specific questions regarding a specific brand or size, etc.

Any light you guys can shed, I'd appreciate it.

Oh, and since i said i've never messed with rings before, I do have a pretty good knowledge base. I've helped my dad hone out cylinders before, and know whats involved, but just never actually put on a set of rings before, and am not to familiar with the different options out there as far as rings go.

Thanks!

i would go with moly rings. They come in a complete set with all the rings.I am sure people have filed rings without a ring filer but it must be tough to get them square. When ordering them order them for the car you are working on.Generaly if you order non file fit rings the end gaps are usually close enough to spec.
