Best route through Monument Valley?

An old buddy of mine is coming out from Maine to visit in August and he's never been further west than New Hampshire, so he wants to see all kindsa stuff. We'll be going to 'Vegas and coming back along the Grand Canyon. I have driven all AROUND the Monument Valley area, but have never been right in the middle of it. Anybody here know which route through it is the most impressive visually? TIA
