I'm in the market for an upgrade here and am curious of what the opinions are when discussing stock location intercoolers.
I would like to stay with the stock look, so I am not really interested in the front mounts.
Which ones install the simplest? ( Are there any that just drop in and bolt up?)
Which ones do not interfere with any frame bracing or swaybars?
I will be running a TA-49 with 60 lb Motrons and a 3" TH style D/P.
TIA for all responses.
Jim

I have the PTE, you can't go wrong with it. Easy install. If you have the money for it, go for it.

i went with a gn1 performance stock location and i know alot of people here do not like archie but he was great and shipped it fast. had to turn down my alky when i went from the duttneck to this one

Maybe a dumb question, but why would you have to turn down your alky?

A buddy of mine has a PTE and it is a very nice piece. Marks is pretty goodlooking for the money. I have a spearco stock location. I don't know how long they made them, but I have seen mine a couple on e-bay thats it.

boost went from 23 to 26psi so i guess the pump speed increased as well and i didnt need that much alky on level 7.5 on the gain knob. 23 on 7.5 is a lot less psi of alky than 26 psi of boost on 7.5 on alky. i was confused as well could have been the weather also. it spools alot faster also

The boost went up because you have a much better-flowing intercooler now, which allows the turbo to spool faster because it's not working as hard. I realize you already had a Dutt neck but now you have more rows which increases flow also. Plus, you have a cooler (more dense) charge of air being forced in. You should be able to back off on your boost controller a bit to compensate. Unfortunately, I have a bit more drastic of a problem--I recently installed a Mark Jackson SLIC that a friend of mine is letting me use in place of my completely stock IC, and my boost went from 16 psi (I'm running 94 octane) clear up to 23 psi. I've turned the boost controller down completely, tried another boost controller that was also turned down completely, and tried 3 different external wastegates, the last of which is a brand-new TiAL 38 mm WG I just got today, which has a .9-bar (13.5 psi) spring in it. None of this has helped, so I'm thinking I may have to port my turbine housing and downpipe. That's the only thing I can come up with--any other suggestions? Everything was fine before I swapped intercoolers and nothing else was changed that day except for increasing WOT fueling through the chip and the rail pressure slightly to keep O2s up and knock down with the higher boost. Any other ideas?
