Before I put my car away for hibernation, I blew out my stock mufflers and man, they actually sound pretty good. Almost like a small block. So now I'm looking for an awesome sounding exhaust note, not quiet, similar to a flowmaster sound I guess. But I know flowmasters don't help our 3.8l turbos. Whats a bad @ss sounding mufflers out there for our cars. I have a comp cam, But I don't think this will make it sound any different.

Dynomax Supertubro's!!!

go with dynomax superturbos!! i have had them on both of my cars now, my el camino had a small block chevy in it that was producing 450hp/450lbsft, and those mufflers sound good, they are by far my favorite. my friend just put them on his F*rd Bronco and it sounds great too. best off all they are cheap! only like 32 bucks each...

ATR PITBULL

These mufflers sound great they are a straight through design and allow 99% of flow of a straight pipe. I have one on mine and it sounds great. and makes the turbo louder and seems to spool quicker. matt

My '67 Impala ss has a set of dynomax thrush turbos on it and its to quiet for me, Even with the big block 468 putting out 500 hp. Lol, the old exhaust system on there was for a mild small block, with glasspacks on there and 2" duals, It would literally blow gravel out of driveways! I like my Silverado mufflers, I just put on flowmaster delta flow 40's, had Summit turbos on for 1 day and decided it was way to quiet. I should have went with staight up 40 series. the deltas are a lil bit on the quiet side, but sound powerful with the stock 350 tbi, but with hedman hedders and true duals with no cat. I just couldn't believe how good the Buick sounds with the bottom of the stock mufflers blown out!

ATR Pitbulls. They have a nice rumble, a lot like a smallblock at idle. I prefer thr aluminized ones over the stainless, they seem to have a slightly throatier sound but are slightly louder inside the car. Flowmasters sound very nice too but I've heard bad things about the performance.

What stories have you heard.....

about the Flowmasters? I have them on my car and I am very pleased with the sound and performance.

what size/series flowmasters do you got? I love the sound of 40 series, but I did notice a hp loss from regular turbo mufflers on my truck. On the ATR website, they say the pitbulls are Extremely quiet, whats up with that?

They're extremely quiet for a straight through design but about average for a performance exhaust. A 5.0 with 2 chamber flows is much louder. Under WOT and high boost they get a little loud. Also, my car is slightly louder with the big turbo vs a small one. Turbo size, lack of a catalytic covertor, and downpipe size make a difference in loudness. Now that I think of it they are pretty quiet when running a stock setup.

My current setup is.....

2 1/2 inch 2 chamber flowmasters with 2 1/2 pipes, exhaust and tailpipes. Yes they are louder than stock, but great performance gains IMO.

i have a 3" pipe from the DP back..

3" cutout, 3" cat.. no mufflers.

sounds good to me.

of course, open the dump and it sounds great.. just really loud inside the car.

GUARENTEED TO MAKE EVERYONE STARE AS YOU DRIVE BY.. hehe.

Y at the downpipe 2 1/2 duals from there. stainless steel no cat no muffs. turbo does a good job of muffeling. sounds like a M.M. pulling tractor. :) Its quieter than my BB. chevy with mufflers:D

yeah i am addicted to driving around with open exhaust, sounds great, and get a lot of funny looks, heh

no mufflers?

I was thinking of also ditching the mufflers. How loud is it? My 95 ta has headers, no cat, and american thunder cat back (3" single out). I would hope it wasn't louder then that.

the cat takes alot of the sound away.. mostly ALL OF THE TURBO noise almost is gone..

i've got no cat, and i run open exhaust sometimes, and then get lazy and dont put it back on, its really not that loud, my old el camino with a 355 in it was louder with exhaust on it (w/o cats of course) the only time the car gets loud is when it gets above i'd say 3700 rpms. but at idle you can hold a conversation... its actually pretty nice, my stock GN sounds like it has a pretty nice cam in it...

I'm sure losing the cat and mufflers sounds awesome, but doen't the turbo cars need at least mufflers for backpressure? Is there any hp loss? even with a cutout? You guys that don't have mufflers that drive on street, do you got the pipes just running all the way back, past the axle?

no, turbo cars dont need backpressure at all.

the reason cars and trucks like DSMs and Syty's have erratic boost problems without cats is probably due to having a wastegate that is too small and thus needs a little backpressure to keep the turbo from getting out of control.

i have a cat, but the cutout is before the cat, so when the cutout is open all the sound comes out.

its REALLY loud inside the car, and when driving by, but i had my girlfriend drive my car today and it wasnt really that loud.. i followed her and from behind you could barely tell anything, of course if you were on the pass side its really freakin loud..

cool, if it's really not that loud then I think I'm just going to lose the mufflers. Thanks for the replies.
