Bruce, do you wipe the part down with something before spraying after sanding?

Never Enough, I forgot to add: you can wash your parts with running water after sanding, too. Warm water. Blow dry the part with your compressor, or wipe dry, but triple check it's dry before painting.
I washed each part also, after sanding, then blow dried them, then tack rag. Sorry I left this out of my earlier posts.

JC3569, YOUR system is what I wish I had. With this system you really know your painting. I'm just a little ol' "rattlecan" expert, where as you are the real expert. Wish I knew how to paint like you do.

How did it come out? I didn't know that the door handles were satin black originally. Or is that just a small make it special thing like we all do? A little thing to make it a little different than the others. Jeeze, this sounds like a riddle.

It really impressed me how good the paint took to the plastic... As for the door handle i had to sand in between coats but it turn out nice i painted satin because the passanger side looks more like a satin... I will take some pics & post....

Would like to see them. Sounds like they did come out ok for satin, that's really a cool way to be a little different. Now maybe I'll do that, it really is a neat thing to customize it, but not overwhelmingly.

My white car has all it's trim done in this paint and going on two years and nearly no rock chips!

Can be bought at any parts store near you!

Scot, how does the Duplicolor low gloss black match up in terms of the stock black trim on a Grand National? If no rock chips in two years, you sure picked a great paint. I could never find the Duplicolor with ceramic. Low gloss black but no ceramic. But is this paint the same shade satin black as the Grand Nationals (like SEM TRIM BLACK?)

Maybe the one you looked at wasn't the "Engine Enamel" because when it's for a engine it will have ceramic in it for the heat!

Yes, I think it's so close you wouldn't be able to tell a difference, Plus when you do the whole car how could one tell anyway?

Give it a try once.

Use the good stuff.....SEM trim black or if you have extra $$ use Wurth trim black. Both give a satin finish. Scuff with a red scotch brite and wipe with wax and grease remover before applying for best results. With either brand there will be no dissapointments!

OK, I'll try it. Would it be suffice to say that this enamel is good enough for my black wheel well trim? This is a high chip area, still looking to get the trims powdercoated, but if I could get the same results with your suggestion of paint, I would go for it. Are your trims painted with this paint? If so, no chips on them after two years?

SEM trim black is the best stuff i ever used.. i've never gotten any orange peel with it.

"Wurth" is very good. I've used it but the only problem is I have to buy it online. If I found somewhere local I'd probably use it exclusively. They also make a lot of other high quality products. I highly recommend their electrical contact cleaner and lubricator too for any of your electrical connections in the car.

Ok, Here is what I used (attached image). I sanded several pieces down with 320 to get them smooth and get rid of a few knicks, then followed that up with 400 and blew it off, and that up with 600 and blew it off. After reading the instructions again, I went back and hit everything again with 400 and blew it off because I thought a "600" finish would be better. But then realized, if that is what I was suppose to do, it would say that.
I then hit it with the cleaner and let it dry. And again with the 400 and blew it off. Then with the cleaner again and let it dry. (Because thats what it says to do)
I then hit everything with a tack cloth as mentioned here. Everything turned out great except two blemishes.
As you can see, in the bezels, they look good except the one spot. I know I cleaned there, and sanded, and cleaned, and sanded, etc....
What is going on here? Similar small issue in the top left corner of the opposite.
I don't mind going through this again as I obviously need to, but need to know what happened so I don't have to a 3rd time. Besides the fact I now need to get another can of paint. Everything looked even after sanding and cleaning, It was dry.

Not sure if it matters, but this happened in this spot only on the one. And I treated everything I did the same.

dupli-color trim paint at autozone looks great its about 6.00 bucks a can

First I cleaned everything. Then I sanded each item with 1000 grit sand paper. Then I wiped everything off and applied the paint. I used SEM Satin Black just like Bruce said.:biggrin:After a few coats of that I applied a couple coats of SEM Clear Satin Gloss. I sanded with the 1000 grit once and wiped everything down and applied a few more coats of the clear. I am very happy with the results.
