Whats the best user friendly street combo for turbo & converter? my friend has a stock longblock 34K miles and looking to upgrade to something very street friendly as in best gas mileage and best performance.

For upgrade over stock, I'd look at something like an old school TA49/TE44 or a billet 5857 (journal bearing) with a restalled D5 converter. The larger converter will give you better gas mileage. Either of the turbos are good to mid 11s on a stock combo. You could go for a BB 5857 and try it out with a stock converter too.

..

IMO, PTE GT6152/ Limit Engineering 6169 or PTE 6262 and a 3000 stall...

I really like the 6262 and 3000 stall combo. Lots of fun!

If he doenst have alky injeciton id look into that first. Then id look at a 44/49 and a restalled converter

what would you restall the D5 to? 2400? 2800?

Yeah, you'd want to go to like 2800. I think thats about the limit of how high they can get with a D5 like converter. To go with a bigger turbo like a 6152, you'd need to go to a 10.5" converter to get the 3000-3200 stall you'd want. But you'd lose some efficiency with the smaller converter so thats why I'd stick with a restalled D5 with a smaller 58mm turbo (or maybe a 60-61 turbo if it a BB) if you want the best fuel mileage while having a fast street car.

Of course, alky's a given for a fast street car. You'll more than pay for the alky kit in $ savings over running race gas on the street.

street combo

My combo, te44,40lbs injectors, rjc plate, acufab reg, racetronics pump 340m ,hot wire kit,3" dp,smc progressive alky (100% meth),restalled d5,modified ic, 9" k&n and of course some BFG drag radials. You would never know this car was not stock, gets great mileage, and the best part it ripps!!!!!! This combo was done for around $2000 to $ 2500.

Yes I can do a restall. Stock stall is around 1600-1800. It can be made into a 2100-2200. These are 0-1# stall ratings. I really like Precisions new line of turbos. They will out spool and out power the older TA-49 based turbos.
