Jamie,
I remember back in the late 90's early 00's a board member in Texas ran a mid to low 11 with a TA-33 and alot of head/intake work.
you are talking about drew carlton and he did not have any nitrous nor an intercooler.I think I remember this and it was a 100 or 150 shoot, either way enough to make a difference for the car to make some extra horse power.
Just curious if everyone here is talking about a ta33c or is that turbo a whole different category?
hmm thought i rember talking to him running closer to a mid11... in any case the whole "major head/intake work" comment does apply to him. he had some nice heads. car is at his dads house i think now chilling in the garage while his job took him far far away from us.Drew ran a high 11 like an 11.84 not a low 11 before the motor went on it with the hybrid intake that was out at that time a 100 years ago, that had a fatal flaw. I don't recall him ever running any faster then that and I have all that old information to refer to because we were suckered on that intake set up as well. Ah the good ole days.
no flames old friend... we're all in the same boat :biggrin:I remember Drew Carlton doing this, but Terry Penner also did this with NOS, ported heads/intake. Drew had a prototyped intake and ported heads. Drew's car was ahead of the curve... I ran NOS on my car also. I had a Kenne Bell chip, hooker exhaust and ATR 2 1/2 downpipe. Other than that it was stock. I experimented with a 75 shot. and went from a 9.40 in the 1/8 mile to a 8.90.
I went to a 100 shot with a second pump on the frame rail and went 8.20's. I stopped there with NOS. I would spray 30 feet past the tree. This was with a stock turbo too... There was a guy from Mississippi named Sterling McCulllars, that had a GN on NOS. It had 3 stages. It had mechanical solonoids that sprayed each stage 100, 200, and 300. It had a secondary fuel system. I going to be flame for this: Stock turbo and intercooler! Sterling and his Mad Scientist friend, Lee Howie (Twin Turbo GN) found a way to spray NOS mechanically after blowing a few headgaskets.
................i think i might have gotten the bug again... .............
Welcome back.
Doing it the "Hotel California" way uh ? .....
TTYPE84
I think I got the BUG again I am chasing same issue.... wiring. My car has been down while deciding which way to go. I guess my rodent problem did not help (Mice ate the insulation on most of my underhood wires). ................
Gents,
As you know, ............ There are a LOT of HA cars that have been converted, and/or are in the process of being converted.
Surely you can pick up a wiring harness for $100-$150 for a HA car that no one wants.
I believe the turbo he's running is the one he had done at Limited and he was one of those I was thinking as far as running 11's on a hot air.John Bruce went 11.9 with a slightly modified motor, 30# injectors, race gas, stock HotAir ecm and a TA-33 about five years ago. He's now running 11.6's with the same setup plus Julio's kit and a TA-62 built for a HotAir.
