Best way to dent a downpipe for clearance.

Hi ya'll, I have a new downpipe that is barely touching the frame. I'd like to dent it some at that location. It's stainless. Should I heat the pipe first or just beat on it cold? How did you do yours etc..

The car has HR Motor mounts.....

Rested mine on some towels and then a few whacks with the BIG hammer. Mine is steel. Mark it where it hits while its on the car.

I heated mine and hit it with a body hammer. Mine is stainless too, and you have to be careful heating stainless. It will heat and melt very quickly.

If you're careful and make the bend look nice, you can clean the pipe back up with a scotch-brite pad, and the pipe will look like new again.

Could it be due to bad body bushings or a bad tranny mount?

hello people; Before you smash your DP get in touch with HR and there new version of motermount is made in a way so you can shift things around for clearance problems. Don't know any more so don't ask.

mark it and lay a piece of 1inch round stock on it an smack that . nice clean smooth indentation will look like it was make that way

i have the 3.5" dp and i marked it with a sharpie while fully bolted up. then lay on workbench heated the sharpie marks then beat it with a deadblow hammer. no more false knock.....heat it good

I've "Fixed" more than a couple DPs that came too close to the frame or heater box.

I mark the area where the bend needs to be tweeked and cut 95% through the pipe. Close up the cut and you get a couple of degrees. TIG Weld it back up and no more interference (or ugly dented up area). It even looks like it was made that way!!!

No dents

Long gate the holes in the header were the turbo mounts ! U will be able to shift the turbo ever so slite . No damage. Will give u clearance for the iac aswell . Kill two rocks with one bird !!!!!
